For the statisticians amongst us:

"Australia have won more Ashes Tests than England, winning 128 of the 320 matches, compared to England's 103 victories. Australia have won the Ashes series on 32 occasions, and England on 31. There have been five drawn series, and on four of these occasions, Australia have retained the Ashes due to being holders going into the series. England have retained the Ashes after a drawn series just once. On only three occasions has a team won all the Tests in an Ashes series..."
~Wiki

It's gotten faster paced over the years, if you can call watching grass grow while men in zinc cream and hats pace about, faster, but still, it's a bloody boring game.

Let the invectives begin!

In January while the Ashes were on, we had 3 visitors from Nebraska come to stay with us for a couple of days.

We ended up having to explain the whole game to them as it was on the TV at the pub where we went for dinner.  And I'm no fan of cricket myself but it doesnt bother me if its on.  Except for it polluting the only radio station i listen to for the entire summer.

I think I impressed on them the fact that we play with many countries and it's all good sport, but with the English it's war.

Billy was at school this morning and the teacher asked all the children what their fathers did for a living.

All the typical answers came out – fireman, policeman, salesman, tradesman etc ..etc., but Billy was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. “My father is an exotic dancer in a gay club and takes off all his clothes in front of other men.

“Sometimes if the offer is really good, he’ll go out with a man, rent a cheap hotel room and let them sleep with him.”

The teacher quickly set the other children some work to do and took Billy aside to ask him was that really true.

“No” said Billy, “He plays cricket for England but I was just too embarrassed to say”.
