Hello to everyone here!

I'm William, 29 years old and I live in Italy.
I'm a happy owner of a BMW K100 16 V, 92' ! It's my first bike, probably I should choose a newer but k100 is so fascinating.
I want disassembly the bike and build a cafe racer, but surely she's so beautiful even in the original version.
Here are some pics of my bike.

Yes man!
All my friends like it very much, altough many of them think that it's too old. But when you read about her story, her engine, about the time (and thousands of km) engineers spent in tests , you cannot fall in love with her!
P.s. I'm really sorry if my English isn't so good, I hope I'll do some practice here and improve myself...
P.s.s. Another lovely pic of my garage...It looks so 80's!!!

Hi William and welcome to the forum.

Your English is fine and we will fill in the gaps. The K is really nice so you should enjoy it.

Now you live in a place we in Ireland would love to travel to.

Any technical information you need is on this forum and everyone will guide you with advice and sometimes parts too.

Thank you 92k, maybe we can organize a trip with the K100 when you'll be in Italy. ( I was in lovely Ireland 3 years ago - Dublin, Galway and Belfast and enjoyed so much my vacancy). Ok, so I'll I ask you some suggestions about the bike, and I'll give some advice on your Italian holiday...

Welcome to the forum William. You should leave that beautiful bike as it is and get an old Honda to make a Cafe racer. It would be like cutting the roof off a ferarri to take the pigs to market.

Ferraris have a roof?

That bike is too good to turn into a café racer.

Welcome William.

I have to agree with the others, your English is very good and that bike's too nice to cafe. Enjoy it as it is, learn about it as you ride/maintain it and find one that's not as nice to convert.

Ok guys, let me explain what I want to do. The bike is fine but I really don't like the square front light. My idea is to remove it and teardown the bike and put a round light. No modifies to the seat or anything else.
Now the bike is marvellous but with the modifies it will be perfect (for me).
Anyway, I'll not modify the bike till the next year so...who knows, maybe I'll change only...my mind!
Thank you all for your suggestions and your welcomes!Smile

p.s.  Does anybody know where I can find the workshop manuals of my baby???Question

+1 lol!

Welcome to the forum William. Your bike looks great. I agree with Rick, to my eye they don't make good Cafe Racers.

There are many helpful people with a lot of knowledge here and it remains one of the friendliest forums I know!

Clymer do a manual that is worth buying. Send a PM to Crazy Frog (Bert) who runs the site and ask for access to files and see you can download for the 16 valve.

Hey Hornblower, nice bike you have there.

Your English is good, keep posting, we love to hear about another K bike being used.

Used means ridden. That RS is toooo good to cafe!

" Ride it or sell it to someone who will! "  Quote from an Indian owner that I met.

He was riding  it, 40's vintage  maybe.

Cafe something else, or is "cafe" improve the brakes, UP the performance,

adjust the seat/handlebar to suit ?

I have only ridden one K100RS for 5 kms, so don't know much but I'm guessing that

even stock, the RS is an awesome bike. Cafe something else...  PLEASE?

Ciao William, welcome along and enjoy the forum. use the Google search on the Portal page to find an thread on fairings for K100 and there were some retro looking ones with round headlight that might give the retro look you seek without too many changes to the RS

Will

William,

You need to keep that RS for some touring and for us to come and see you in Ancona and get another one in poor body shape to make into a café racer.

welcome William

I agree with a lot of the other posts ....

look for an old ex police rt or lt version  for the chop job .......those "rs" bikes are a special kind of evil all their own

sell the fairings off the rt to someone that has a drop event and  reclaim some money

cheers and good luck

William,

Anyone who has an RT or LT will tell you that if its dropped the cost of the fairing and panniers will probably not make it worth repairing. The rest of the bike will usually be in prefect order and would make a perfect café racer project without buying a bike that could be a lot of trouble. These dropped bikes even come up on this forum at a good price from time to time, a well maintained one is a good buy. I saw a complete LT go on eBay yesterday for GBP£255.01.

My own LT was hit from behind and the fairing/screen/mirrors and pannier rails are a big cost so I bought the RT instead and the LT will probably become a naked bike at a low cost. The only mechanical damage to the LT was the right hand cover which even with a new gasket is only costing €50 to fix.

Charlie 99,

You read that right. But I do need to source alternative headlamp/front indicator arrangement but I already have ideas for that and will probably find a complete Japanese unit. The only slight problem is more than a few parts have somehow migrated to the RT and the wheels are next.....I see the LT as just being a spare bike. With multi bike insurance there is little cost in having more than 1 on the road at a time.

William,

Do NOT disrupt that beautiful K.  At most, take off bags except for long trips, and remove belly pan to see if that is appealing to your eye.

Additionally, tune it by riding it!

Enjoy,
