Wow what a ride. Thanks for sharing Jap and 4000metres that's nearly twice as high as our highest mountain in Australia.

Great ride report!

Am avid kayaker...
Certainly noted the fast water in that one photo.
Have friends who have journeyed down there just for that.

Pretty neat to see fast water and a K in a pic.

Thanks for sharing the trip!

from the light in the pictures the air looks crisp and clean if a bit thin for us lowlanders! I like the side panels too are they off a k1100 or your own creation?

Excellent! Thanks a lot of those.  The Andres are very special, where the higher elevations give one the sense that you can see forever.  I have enormous respect for you, having ridden so far in the Andes in such short time.  I only know the Andes in Peru and Bolivia but the roads I remember are pretty challenging....Shocked
Question: Do you have difficulty finding good fuel for your K100RS there?

Yes air is thinner than at home (I Live at sea level) and you has to move slowly for not get sick, but the K handles it very well specially if you take the time to install the high altitude plug.
The side panels are home made, and designed to channel the hot air flows to the back of the bike and not over my legs.
Best regards
JAP

Hi, yes andes roads are very similar, in that trip we were escorting a friend from Uruguay and he was telling us about the other roads and scenarios he had traveled trough the andes, and that he found the switchblade-turns in our climb, particulary challenging.
Regarding he fuel, there is no problem at all, we have two fuel grades 91 and 95 octane, the K will run on any of both seamlessly.
Best regards
JAP

That is astonishing!  Around here, you'll be hard pressed to find such fuel. And in the mountains at higher elevations often the fuel is 87 or even 85 octane.  I'm told that an engine's need for high test fuel is reduced at high elevations.  I don't understand that, but it must be true or many of use would struggle with higher tuned motors in the mountains.
