Guessing it's the naked model as I have a windshield without a fairing. Told the windshield was a BMW Interstate.

My guess is the previous owner used a harsh chemical for cleaning which removed the black paint from the engine. Something I'll attend to later.........
Reported to have under 10K miles.

Thank you
Usually very few, (unless alcohol is involved).

Very nice for an early example. Those clear windscreens are quite effective.
I think you will find that your model came without a black painted engine, so should be unpainted, the same as the gearbox/intermediate housing/final drive.
Not sure when the black painted engines/gearboxes came out but they were staring to appear on the 75 models at least by 1990. Possibly late 1989.

Ah yes a very fine looking K100. The headlight cowl model with the touring screen, early 80's the engine should not be painted the engine would have been dressed in paint by a previous owner, as it became a popular look, the black engines. Many will be envious of the radiator cowl when the weather heats up.

The engines were never black but the covers (cam, crank, water/oil pump and cam chain), intermediate housing and gearbox were black from, I think I am right, 1988 on. By looks that is up till early 1985 so it would have had silver and bare aluminium.

Thank you for the comments! I fell in love the first time I saw the bike.
Wow, that's good to know. This dummy has not only searching the net to find a photo of a bike with the same paint scheme on the engine, etc., but also recommended engine paints to use to refurbish! I guess I can stop searching.
So..........any ideas on what to use for removal?

Will be looking for a way to adjust/raise the windshield.
AND a front fender extender, (mud flap), (guess who lives on a gravel road). Looks like the Extenda will not work on my model.
Thanks again for the kind welcome.
