Hello All,

just joined this forum.
recently aquired a 1985 BMW K100RS. 92000 K.
metallic light blue in colour, straight up stock, with black panniers.
Awesome bike.  loving it.

Can easily forsee problems with this bike in the future.....

The Unexplained sick time and weak excuses for missed days at the office.
The "traffic detours" making me late for dinner the little lady and the munchkins.
The neglect the house will receive as saturday morning breakfast outings mysteriously turn into lunch and then stretch past the dinner hour.

not to mention, the sports network on the television has already been given the back seat behind the local weather channel. In fact I've become a bit of a weather junkie.  If I leave the house in the morning and it is not raining, there is a 100% chance I'm riding.

my downfall (one of many) is that I am not much of a computer wiz.  I usually leave that stuff up to the kids.
I will try my best though with posting pictures and such on this forum.

Really looking forward to communicating with a bunch of good people, hearing some great stories and learning about these bikes.

cheers

B

Hi there welcome to the forum.
I see you have your priorities worked out well and I hope you have some mud to stick in the crack and then we will see you around often.

Thanks for the advice. think I'll stick with a fibre glass patch kit though. hahah.

spent the july 1 weekend camping at Algonquin provincial park.
An awesome park.  every time I visit is a new adventure.
bugs were bad in northern Ontario this year. wet spring tends to do that.
could only bring minimum gear. tent sleeping bags bit of chow.

great ride up and down using all back roads.  great fun. bike handled the trip like a champ.

one thing needed is a back rest / sissy bar for the missus.
I do not have a trunk on this bike.  not sure I really want one. - up for debate
I have been considering one of those corbin seats with a built in back rest for the passenger? any thoughts?

The Corbin have a very good reputation although I have not tried one due to the expence of getting one to Australia.
The standard RS seat is known as a bench seat for a very good reason and a BMW comfort seat is a good seat to use but some are now starting to lose the comfort due to age.

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on the K.  I have no knowledge of those Corbin seats with the integrated backrest, but they do look good: a few do make it to the UK, but not many for the same reason that they are rare in Oz.

If buying something like that gives your partner the confidence to become your pillion passenger, and thereby share the fun, then the expense is of no consequence.  Life is all about shared experiences: I always wonder how enjoyable it would be to dine alone in the world's best restaurant, especially if you were not allowed to relate to anyone how good the food was.  Another analogy I could use is to compare motorcycling to sex: if you do it alone it is pretty darn good, but when you do it as part of a couple then it becomes awesome.

Do whatever it takes to get your partner on the bike.

Welcome crackers
I can't ride an RS but my RT brilliant for these old bones.
I have a problem here in Oz this year, was supposed to lay the old girl up and do much needed tarting up.
However our weather has been so mild and dry down where I am, every day I think this will be my last chance before snow and ice, so better get a ride in. Not getting much yard work done so I know your problem.
Enjoy the ride.

All I can say is that I was sold on my seat. The LT was great but the best part was the seat. Due to being rear ended by a car I now have an RT with a less than acceptable seat. Although I am told the 92LT seat wont fit an 84RT I am looking at dismantling the two and transferring the foam and cover from the LT seat base to the RT seat base. Not over concerned with how it looks, but how it feels.

For what its worth get either a Corbin seat or a 'Comfort' seat and put a pad/backrest on the top box. You wont enjoy the outings until you do. The K is made for camping trips, long trips, breakfast meet ups and you will do many miles on it so its important to be kind to your butt!!!!

thanks for the heads up on the seat.
both RicK G and 92KK K100LT 193214 mention the comfort seat?
what type of seat is this?
are they readily available?  new or used?  where could I pick one up?  does it have a passenger back rest?
or there is a possibility for a trunk.
maybe help with a trunk to incorporate a back rest for the passenger (which could be removed) might be a good solution.
do you think I might be able to buy a trunk as an aftermarket or would I have to go directly to BMW?

thanks.

We may have a language barrier in the use of the word 'trunk' relating to a bike. In car terms we refer to a 'trunk' as the boot'. Do you mean what we call a top box, sits on the carrier mounted on the rear tailpiece? If yes then this can act as a backrest or have a backrest pad fixed to it. Its a good solid support for a passenger. When I got the RT it came with the carrier but no box so I swapped over the carrier from the LT which sorted it. You should be able to find them on eBay or some members may have one to sell on.

Seats are available from www.motorworks.co.uk or www.motobins.co.uk but can probably be sourced locally. My seat is not original but I am going to try to adapt it.
