Hiya, first tech post in here so be gentle , I've got a '92, 16 valve RS , last week I drained the oil from the rear drive and replaced . Went out this morning and noticed a pool of oil under the tire. It's deffo not coming from the drain plug , so will its re than likely be the big seal? If so is it a big job to replace. Not a big job at all just make sure you have some heating device like propane torch to make it easy to get the 2 bolts that hold the disc to the drive as red loctite is used there.

Read that bit about the heating do you think a hot air stripper on max would do the job? I've checked for free. Play today and can't feel anything at all at either 12/6 or 3/9 positions . Do you think I would get away with just replacing the seal, trying to save pennies as I'm a tight Yorkshire man

I replaced my seal last week, bearing is fine so no need to replace it if it's not showing any wear unless you really want to. So being from Yorkshire I expect to see your used seal on eBay once the job is complete! Wink

You can but give the air stripper a try, there isn't a lot of work involved in removing the wheel so you can get to the 2 bolts in question, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Oh I love you, 8 quid as opposed to 40 summet is music to my ears, the rest ill put towards a service kit now I'm getting to grips with the beast.

Just put some tension on the bolt as if you are trying to undo it and apply the heat then when it comes you will take the heat away and not over heat. I don't use any loctite when putting the bolts back as they only hold the disc on when the wheel isn't there and cant come out when the wheel is there.

Good tip that about applying the pressure with the heat , ill try and get a new seal for this weekend.
I fitted some bar risers yesterday and they have made massive difference to how it all feals. I'm not as crouched and handling seams improved on tight bends. Cheers Daz

Well that's got my first job done, just replaced the seal with one from moto works, spot on. Now to start tackling the rest.
