I've had my 1986 k100 on the road for a year now, some 6,000 miles after a carefull ,complete ,3 year rebuild. When i rebuilt the engine, i was aware,(thanks to this forum ) of the output damper rivet issues, so these were inspected carefully, and deemed to be ok.The damper was not split for spring inspection, as the thin cog was not loose or rattley when moved by hand. Now, in the cold weather, the engine rattles in that area until warm. When i installed the damper, should i have preloaded the thin cog?. Would it be possible now, with the engine in situ, by lifting the crank and preloading the thin cog by one tooth ?. .. Any ideas much appreciated.
