Hi I need a bit of help here. Ive stripped down my forks ie off the bike, removed the stanchions from the sliders but not the stanchion internals ie spring etc. What I have found sitting underneath the top of the stanchion nuts/ top caps (?) are two washers with four holes in. These are approx 3.7mm thick and appear to seat on the internal shoulder of the top caps. However the washers one in each stanchion are identical one seats perfectly and the other wont quite seat as there is a slight lip on one of the top caps. This lip doesnt look like any kind of wear groove as they're anodised and that looks to be fine. The result is the washer sits up off the main shoulder by about 4mm.
So my question is what are these parts as they are not shown on my exploded fork diagram and secondly assuming they are supposed to be there should they seat right down on the shoulder in both top caps. I remember one being hard to get out and had to be tapped out.
Any help much appreciated.
