Well i took delivery of my 87 K100 about a week ago. Glad to say that Bike arrived and was as depicted in photographs. Very tidy and clean and i genuinely thought before riding that it was a lot of Bike for the price.
Got the keys and started it up without any smoke or abnormal noises, took it for a short ride and was pleasantly suprised at the comfort, especially the rubber mounted handle bars. I was also amazed at how for a physically large bike it felt very light and nimble (remember my other ride is a Harley)
Got home and placed it on the side stand and let it sit for a couple of hours before i set out on a 100km ride. Sure enough after sitting on side stand it blew a shitload of smoke on start up, only for a short time. This had me concerned (until further reading was conducted).
The first thing that hit me before i left town and got on the Highway was the fact that I could hold top gear at 60kmh, this had me wondering about the top end of the bike. Sure enough once out on the highway I was able to wind out in top gear to approx 160kmh at 6000 rpm, with more to go. Unusual power delivery, smooth clean.
The protection given from the RS Fairing was great, and was not fully appreciated until I swapped back onto a Harley to let my friend have a crack on the Beemer.
I have since done approx 280km and apart from the seals starting to weep on the Master Cylinders (bike sat for a long time) and the fact i got a rock in the headlight which has cracked the lense i am very happy. I have replacement parts on order for the master Cylinders.
I can really understand why people say that these bikes are easy to put miles on, it is a pleasure to ride.
