Hi beemerphile, I've made some changes to my K1100LT that may interest you in your quest for a different riding position.
My K1100LT is now without fairing and looks like this.
After riding a few thousand km in this mode with the standard LT bars I felt I needed the grips a few inches further forward to give me a slight lean forward riding position but nowhere near as far forward as RS bars. Months of searching later I purchased a set of bars that were termed Lucas Style Low Touring. I've done one 2,000km trip on them and while not perfect they are very good for me and look like this.
When I removed the fairing I mounted K75 mirrors on small Z shaped brackets that I made up.
On the K1100 the right hand adapter needs a left hand threaded bolt to use an existing hole in the throttle control perch.
These aftermarket bars were open ended so to mount my bar end weights I bought a couple of concrete anchors of the appropriate size, cut off the thread then bored and tapped the shaft to 8mm. Worked a treat for $6.
Smithy, another of the Aussie Krew, fitted a similar set of bars to a slightly customised K100 he had a couple of years ago but I don't have a photo of it.
Cheers
