) many Gaelic names became Anglicised, kind of spelt how they sounded, e.g. Beal-fierste (mouth of the river) became Belfast, Tir Eoghain became Tyrone and Doire became Derry. Derry only became Londonderry after the Plantation of Ulster and the London Company contributed to the building of the Walls and the name changed by Royal Decree (and only a Royal Decree can change it back), well after the Normans. Vikings also had an influence, e.g. the area for Dublin was Baile Atha Cliath, Vikings changed it to Dubh Linn and then anglicised to Dublin. Other viking settlements were anglicised like Strang Fjord became Strangford and Weis Fjord became Wexford.
