Ok guys, behind the scenes 92KK and myself have been planning a meet and ride for a couple of days now.

Meeting point is Stradbally Fayre Cafe, Stradbally, Co. Laoise. (N80 Portlaoise to Carlow about 10k from the M7 at Portloaise). 9.45 am 11/8/12.

From there we will take a route, to be decided on the day to suit all parties, maybe through Carlow of Wicklow for a couple of hours.

All are welcome, camping available at my place for anyone who fancies it.

The forecast for Saturday is good and I had thought of a day trip to Donegal but might head down to the meetup instead.
It's only about 145 miles from home and if I get out of my pit early enough I can make it down in time.
Are you expecting many to turn up?

John I am sure you are more than welcome, it is indeed easy to get to for you, we would love to see you!! Bring your tent!!! My grandad came from your neck of the woods.......

My Great Great Grandad stole your Great Great Grandmothers kerchief, and bless the English, ended up on a free trip to here.

But its 180 miles from the east to the west coast thats a long way for us

aye mate ...any meeting with fellow "k bike " riders is awesome ...lets hope you get the chance to "group ride" through a town and turn some heads...its a great feeling

We have some really nice roads and curves...perfect for K bikes.....or anyone else for that matter.

after a few pints of Guinness 180 miles is about 2 hrs even if u have to dodge a few leprechauns along the way

Actually 2nd and 9 minutes Ned. At least that's what it took me to do the 308kms from Galway (west coast) to my home on the east coast today....all on my trusty bullion brick. Don't tell the traffic corps, I managed it without getting my picture taken ( yes I was in a hurry) .......and mine is fitted with a restrictor

ComberJohn & SG Mayhew definitely room for you - it will be great to see you there. I've got a lumpy paddock or a flat lawn for camping - Even got two spare two mans if you dont feel like lugging a tent.

For anyone planning making a night of it we can pick up a few Burgers and brewskis on the way then crank up the Aussie style outback grill when we get here ( in deference to our Aussie supporters!).

We may have another K1 rider from the south east Scotty. TBC tomorrow.

These are all roads and runs, discussed between 92kk and myself, cobbled into one route, Which maybe altogether too long given the journey to the start point, we can chop, change & fine tune it at the meeting point depending on peoples wants and needs on the day. That's up to you guys.

That is really a fantastic route. You have put a lot of work into it.

I have at various times travelled all of it and it reminds me of the scenic train route from Dublin to Rosslare. Three hours by train to do what you drive in an hour and a half but what a route. It is also a favourite steam train run as well.

I printed the map and 174km is just perfect. From Cork it is about 100 miles/162km to Stradbally, takes me well under 2 hours.......but watch for speed. M8 is notorious for cameras and it is easy to let the right hand run away on long rolling curves. The trouble with a motorway is that you have to go fast to feel the curves.

Are we looking at a lunch stop at Glendalough Hotel????? Weather map [www.met.ie/forecasts 5 day] looks good for a dry day there.

Scottie.ie unable to make it on His K1 due to ill health - he was going to trailer it and do a short spin but after a chat on email he decided discretion is the better part of Valour. (Hope you're better for the next time, Scottie )

Vis lunch, Glendalough is a good point to aim at 92KK - there are a few options within a stone's throw of the Round tower. The Glendalough hotel, The heather restaurant (all day full irish and the like), Lynham's pub in Larragh and a coffe shop beside. So something to suit all pockets.

The suns out, the temperature is up & the roads are dry (problem now is all my gear is too bloody warm )

I've got my handycam charged and will try the small helmet cam too for the fun.

I went on a 270 mile run the same Friday as 88KE. I took out all the thermal linings and only had a shirt and jeans under. I was snug right up to 11pm when I got home. I have left it all out but will bring it just in case. Was worth mentioning that as it looks like it will be warm.

I havent got around to cam or bluetooth yet so no voice communication......blissful solitude.

Thanks for the encouragement Charlie. I was delighted to get back from the west last night and log in to see such a great response form everyone.

Re the map if you drop down the box in the top r/h corner where it says traffic and choose "Terrain" you'll get a better idea of why I chose these routes.

Well I've "polished me rocket" so to speak and I'm off to lay out a few things for the morning to aid a quick getaway.

I could not resist picking this one up again since it was started by 88KE....how could we fall off the edge...we have a natural barrier around the perimeter to stop us falling off. Has no one ever noticed these beautiful sunrise and sunset shots taken at the waters edge......sitting outside a pub enjoying a nice cool beer? These are designed to create a natural barrier to us falling off. I believe 90% of the population live within 30 miles of the coast so they definitely work.
