A report that sums up road safety in NSW for riders.

"May be of interest to some. Source: David Tynan,
Secretary, STRA NSW

Good afternoon
We have just completed an analysis of the NSW motorcycle
and scooter crash data for 2011 which was supplied by The Centre For Road
Safety Transport For NSW. These are the
latest official crash statistics available from the NSW Government at this
time....
A more detailed review of 2011 is included on the webpage
as a pdf link http://www.survivetheride.org/cms/wp-content/uploads/Summary-2011-Motorcycle-Crashes.pdf.If you have
trouble finding the link please let me know.
We hope to be able to provide some more overall trend
information later in the year.
Survive The Ride"

Yes it would be very interesting to break the stats up by style and engine capacity of bikes,
Sports, touring, etc,up to 500cc, to 1000cc, to 2000cc etc and so on,
What we ride and how we ride it makes a significant difference. you don't have to be a speed demon to get into trouble.
lets all be aware and ride safe.
our time on this planet is short enough.
on the upside , I'm looking forward to a great time with the crew here on the forum, especially the rides.

Yes, it would be interesting. If you look the page with the graphs you'll see that age is not really a factor. For example, if we take our age group, say 45++ the number of crashes and injuries is pretty well evenly distributed and no different for the middle and young age groups.

I assume that a lot of BMW riders will fall into 45++.

I am also surprised that age groups of 30++ makes up a large proportion of the stats.

On the up side the stats in Victoria show 17% improvement is statistics. A steady but significant trend since 1990. see: http://www.bikepoint.com.au/news/2012-victorian-road-toll-down-34307
