When i had the battery off to check it i tested the resistance between the live terminal and earth with the ignition off and found a reading of 56 ohms, i thought this strange so i tested my old Airhead and the circuit was totally open no reading (as expected).

I returned to the K retested pulling all the fuses and the reading remained constant at 56 ohms, i know the clock circuit is on independent of the ignition but i would have thought that it would be on a fused circuit so i just wondered if anyone else has tested for this and what reading they got as 56 seems pretty low to me and could be the cause of my previous starting troubles.

time to start pulling fuses till you find the circuit that has that load ...

as i said earlier ...folks do some interesting mods ..non documented some times ...and often in an incorrect way

ouch !

that could make it a bit harder to find

better wait till ingesat comes over ...he may know of later series options fitted ! giggle

but to my way of thinking they should be behind the fuses ...

Lou there are a number of places that can be unpluged to isolate it futher. Unplug the ECU, ICU which is under the tank right up front below the top frame tube and both left and right handlebar switches, these unplug from the main harnes under the tank.
You possibly have a crushed harnes in some place and the most likely place is at the steering head. Wuold also pay to unplug the instrument panel. Do them one by one and check after each one and inspect the wire harnes all over for crushing or abrasions.
From what you have done already I reckon you know what I am getting at.

Yup going to pull the tank off tomorrow and have a poke arround would have thought the circuit would be open with the fuses out thanks for the help.

I would have started with disconnecting the alternator, then the ignition switch.
Any aftermarket euquipment mounted?

Does the alternator have an exiter circuit ? I have played with Airheads for years but i am new to these new fangled K,s

No extras bog standard RT just wondered if anyone else has ever tested to earth and got a reading for a bike with no problems so i would have an idea what the reading should be.The cooling fans dont work so i will check that circuit when i get the tank off for a poke around.

Yes, the rotor is the exciter.

The alternator is a identical to Bosch models used in cars......years ago.

Definitely have a look at the alternator. In an other threat we found an alternator faulty, drawing 2 amps from the battery with all the fuses out. Just pull the plug and see what it does.

could that reading be the ignition kill circuit, with the low tension side of the circuit earthed via kill switch or ignition switch ?
