My wife and I will be riding the famous million dollar highway through the San Juan mountains in southern Colorado next weekend. We are leaving from Montrose in the morning and will finish at Pagosa springs, i figured it might be worthwhile to see if any other forum members will be in the area. I will post pics when I get back.

On a section known locally as "the gun barrel" (ten freshly paved straight miles with perfect visibility) we hit 120 mph fully laden two up. The only reason it wasn't 140 was my own fear. The k ran perfectly!

Wouldn't do 140, the rev limiter will cut in at 8300 or close to that unless the thing has had a sad ending of course.

I have ridden Colorado a few times, its great! I have a very similiar picture at Independence Pass. I recall a beautiful old growth Aspen forest on the west side of the pass. Have a great ride, I'm sure you will.

Thanks for raining on my parade Rick. I'll just keep imagining that klaus can go 180 with the right conditions. Smile

If I go any faster than 120 KM/H while 2 up, my wife digs her claws into my sides, if I was to do 200 km/h (120 mph) she'd be up to her wrists in my kidneys!

Get rid of the rev limiter and they just keep going TWBs RS has no limiter and is quiter a bit faster than most.
My K100LT would go all day on the limiter at 208k on the speedo but sooner than later I would start thinking If a roo jumps out I'm gone and that just hurts too much and back off.

The RS is capable to do 140 (speedo reading, not real world),
the condition on the rear tyre counts when squeesing out those last km`s.

The rev limiter starts to retard the ignition at 8700, cuts fuel at 8800.

My RS will tach to over 9500 with no valve float and almost, but not quite, bury the speedo needle. That's with 35mm throttle bodies and other trix. How fast is that really? Dunno, my eyes blurr and my helmet shudders at those speeds. But I saw, through one bleeding eye, 252 km/h on the road to Bingara. Even factoring ten percent less is perty near well to scootin'.

252 km/h equals 156 mph -10% = 140 mph. Ingepedia.
