Good Afternoon to all,
New member in Maryland here. I have an '88 K100LT w/74k miles in the very fast Tobacco Brown color. This may come as a bit of a shock, but I'm currently troubleshooting a rough running condition where the bike bogs terribly when I open the throttle. I see similar issues all over the 'net, and from what I can tell it's definitely, without a doubt, absolutely related to the AFM.

Or FPR. Or Hall Sensor. Or fuel pump. Or a vacuum leak. Or (one of) the temp gauges. Or the EFI. Or the undertank electrical connectors. Or the four-pin connector on the right side. Good lord, maybe it's the seat cover causing it. I have double-checked and have ruled out the side cases as a potential fault.

I have been reading the forum for some time now, and it looks like there are several threads with similar symptoms--my hope is to be able to eventually contribute with a solution. Currently I'm sourcing clamps for the intake manifold rubbers I'm about to replace.

Welcome to the madhouse, Tighthead!

I`m shure the reason to your problem is in the seat foam,
and not the seat cover.........don`t argue, I`m an expert on this.

About intake clamps, check post #40 in this thread.

Welcome Tighthead
seems that it is mostly the simpler solutions that work, everyone tends to think the worst straight up but often it's just a reasonably easy fix.
Hang in there and listen to the real experts here, not me

Thanks Inge. I'll give some thought to the seat foam issue, and I appreciate the link to the clamps.

"Don't listen to RT." Got it.Smile

I think the simplest solution in my case will be to replace the rolling chassis, engine & bodywork with that of a 2012 K1600GT. It may end up saving me money!

Indeed, for nearly 15 years I labored in obscurity in the front row. But that was, for me also, a long time ago. "Tighthead" was the first username I ever registered anywhere on the net with, and it's the one I'm sure to remember!

I must say that I believe I have the thread sorting out your bike memorized. Sadly the solution there (FPR, I believe) isn't the same for mine.

Welcome to the Forum.

Thank you Blakey...I imagine any one of those reasons above could be causing my condition, but I have so far been able to avoid my usual tried-and-true troubleshooting method: start replacing big-ticket items at random until I notice that a plug is fouled.

This time I am attempting to apply logic and reason to the effort, which has seriously strained my limited (mental) resources.

I appreciate the support, but I'm male, and straight...therefore not a "thespian."

Am sorry if there was an interpretation of anything other than straight. Nothing like that intended. Over here Thespian is simply another word for an actor, male or female, no more than that.

No worries at all, it was my attempt at humor that fell flat. I get confused at times...for a long time I thought 'pachyderm' meant a word that you could read forward and back, and 'atheist' meant someone who could throw a ball with both hands.

I think a palindrome never knows which way he is going, a bit like a Porsche which as Jeremy Clarkson says does not know it it going forward or backwards. My fault....but welcome here!

Good to have you with us looking forward to hearing more about the area you live in. Regarding your problem with the bike put a post in the main body since not all the top guys always read the intro section and having the post in the relevant section gives you a better chance of someone responding.
Regards,
K-BIKE
