Just as a parting shot to cement my newly learned skill, here is something old (me) a lovely old pub (Gorge 4th Inn in Picton, NSW) and a young live band in the background. I promise that I am squinting because of the sun, not the band, beer, bikes or the cigar

I remembered "old train station" whilst out riding home on a borrowed 2008 F800ST today. Nice little bike, but my hands went to sleep on the interstate highway at 115 km/h. Reminded me of my K100RS. This train and station are in Elbe, Washington state, just down the road from Mt Rainier.

Wow thats a real Casey Jones steamer that one with taper funnel and all.

It was used to haul logs until not so terribly long ago. This area is rich in timber and many a logger has busted his back dragging those tall timbers down off the mountains round Elbe and beyond.

Nowadays it's BLM land (Bureau of Land Management) and the Weyerhauser company cuts muddy tracks deep into the forests and up slippery slopes. On a sunny day it looks like the surrounding hills have gotten a really bad haircut.

Monoculture of the forests allows all manner of insect virus in and this can have a devastating effect. Biodiversity is best. Old Ma Nature doesn't plant the same sort of tree for mile after mile in nearly straight rows over hill and dale, but we do.

That little town of Elbe has many different types of trains parked along the roadside, many of which have been converted into restaurants. Next time through I'll take some pix of them.

Yep....but it doesn't have to be for horses - there's lots of types of metalwork in a forge so to make it easier for an international audience we could accept any type of old forge.

Purely in the interests of furthering the game, I forced myself to go for a Monday ride today. I ended up in hospital last week with dehydration after a stomach bug, and so to get out for a ride in such good weather today felt almost like rebirth.

So, I will see the foundry....this one in Uralla NSW. ( It's an ongoing concern at updated premises and makes wrought iron and latticework etc as well as blacksmithing type stuff).

Excellent Work Saxon7.....There's a nice old fashioned look to the forge and a sheering shed is going to be a challenge for those outside Aus! I hope the guys inside weren't eyeballing your saddle pad and oiling their clippers!!

used to live a few killometers east of gostwyck ....ahem a few years ago now (" east mihi ") whilst i went to school in armidale as "daygo" rather than a boarder ...remember taking the long paddock with 40,000 sheep that way back in the 60s , and rabbit and fox skins to the tannery at uralla , for pocket money . small world huh

Peter, I'm sure it qualifies. It just had to be a shed...any sort of shed really, and your bike is there too. It's a pretty impressive shed really......and at that price is really a shed mahal. But....where is your next photo?

First: The colors are no problem, mine is German, white and green. The German police now uses blue and silver.

And this is the highest road driving point in Venezuela, pico El Aguila around 4120 meters over sea level.

While I was away camping this w/e I get back to find I've been trumped.
Got a nice cow shed on Saturday though. Pity I can't convey the smell!
It's in Leicestershire, near the village of Kings Norton. It's interesting because Boulton and Paul used to make aircraft, over 500 FE2B's and they made more Sopwith Camels, under contract, than any other manufacturer.





I then went on to get a tower....actually a church tower, so I seem to be in a parallel universe with Peter sheds and towers.

My father-in-law was with the 6 airborne on D Day and landed round midnight.

What say a bridge that lifts.

On my way to Watchet last Friday, I made a short de-tour to this moving bridge (Go on Rick, let me have a swing bridge instead of a lifter, please, please.)

I had only walked to this bridge before, from Slimbridge, along the Gloucester Sharpness Canal towpath, but I eventually found the road leading from the little village of Cambridge and parked my bike on the bridge for the photo.



This bridge is no mamby-pamby bridge powered by hydraulic motors and operated by pushbuttons......this is real muscle power!

Returning from Watchet today, I hoped that I would catch the weekend boating traffic and see the bridge in action. Sure enough, I arrived just as a canal longboat was passing through.



Heading home towards 'Brum' (that's colloquial Birmingham) I passed through Ashchurch and five miles later figured that I've just missed an opportunity for the next challenge, so, about turn and back to Ashchurch's military depot.



So that's it; a picture of your bike with some sort of military vehicle.

Been running in my new bike and neglecting the K a bit but having completed the run- in I am now able to share my arse between 'em. That said and it being Sunday evening the aforementioned backside was heading towards the sofa when Paul's military theme inspired me to don my gear and head for the nearest tank. Here it is,coming to you live from Scotland (well nearly live...)



I will have to raid the archive for a follow-up as it was starting to rain, dark and I needed my cocoa.

Well, if I'm permitted, and to keep the thread moving, here is an archive follow-up to the tank. Odd to think just a few short years ago before the mobile phone revolution these were a bit of a lifeline for stranded motorists. Not many left now.

Accepting that AA boxes are not really a global phenomenon how about 'interesting street furniture preferably but not neccasarily box shaped' as a follow up subject?
