Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide that my car needs washing.
As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see That the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.
I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the Kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day: the car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only one check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it.
Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!

Thank God it's not just me then.
That sounds like every one of my days, except when I manage to get on the bike and ride, the problem seems to dissipate.

When I was diagnosed I found that a ride was the best thing but I can never find the keys.

It sounds almost like a day in the life of a Gemini. Then you add age to the equation and man, it'll change again tomorrow, then the next day, and the next...

Now, where are those glasses? I can't keep up with myself.
scratch

Post Script: a week or so ago I was walking the dog in the neighbourhood and felt something fall from my pocket as I hurriedly crossed a busy road. Searching round on the ground at sunset I could find nothing and wasn't sure what had dropped from my pocket. Two kilometres later and now dark, I was home and checking round for my reading glasses so I could open the front door and get inside. No bloody glasses. I went back and searched that night and again over the next two days in full daylight to no avail. Yesterday I spotted a hand-written sign attached to a telephone pole several metres from where I thought I'd dropped them. Rolled up in cardboard and taped to the pole with a sign saying "Glasses Found" were, you guessed it, my glasses.

It'd been a very fuzzy week until then.

Good read Crazy Frog...and all too true!

And GiTH, your story of your glasses is also spot on!
I've got a pair in my bike jacket, on the bike, in each of the cars, a pair in the shed, at the office and another pair in the bag I take to work!
Absolutely can't read a thing without them.

The lost & found pair are my favourite glasses, too. The spares I had to wear in lieu are a pair of thick black plastic-frames with tape holding them together. All I need is a pocket protector and a calculator and I'm instantly smarter wearing them.

I have 5 pairs of reading glasses that are distributed in various places like Blakey says and sooner or later they all end up on the desk with my computer and I havent got any in my shed/car/bike. If I squint really hard and hold at arms length I can read a newspaper but gees it drives me nuts.

I forgot where I parked the car in a huge multi story. Feeling foolish, I looked for ages carrying shopping bags around in cold and rain. When I found it I was so relieved that I forgot to go to the doctor on the way home.
The Wife asks me if picked up the prescription?
Oh s**t I exclaim and head back to town asap. before surgery shut.
I meet a mate. "Fancy a pint?" he says.
Several beers later I head home.... by bus.
"Where's the prescription and the car?" asks the 'together one' looking rather frosty.
Oh s**t I exclaim again. I decide walk the dog.
It raining. I lose the dog lead then the dog.
Walking home I remember why I went to town in the first place.
Shopping was not the reason.
It was to book an appointment at the optician for new specs.

You guys should worry.
My 92 year old Mother in law lives in a unit attached to our property. I think I am going mad most of the time
because my tools and chairs and cloths and screws keep disappearing and I spend hours searching for where
I left them. Mostly she has stolen them and hidden them in her bedroom but not always, so I end up having to do a search around my shed before I point the finger.

And as it happens in the course of typing this I remembered that I was transferring water to the cows from
a house tank and meant to put a timer on in half an hour, 2 hours ago. Another 1,000 liters down the hill. That's the 3rd time this year, thankfully we get 2 meters of rain a year here.

RT, if most of your stuff is already in her room, why not just swap her out to the shed?
I hope you wife doesn't read the forums. If she does, then this was referring to a different RT. How brave am I?

Ha Ha the jig is up. I'm thinking of strapping her onto the back of the bike and taking her for a run, when I need fuel that is, and if I have trouble starting, oh that's a new battery needed, those tyres look a bit bald, got your chequebook with you?.
I still wonder what she was going to do with my torque wrench though.

Reading through the messages reminded me of a song - after much head scratching trying to remember where I heard it finally found it on Youtube. It's called "I Forget". Sounds like some of us could have written it.
