Hi Guys,

Took a ride out this weekend taking advantage of the national holiday courtesy of HRH Queen Liz.

The approach to Ardmair, near Ullapoll on the west coast of Scotland. Good roads round these parts

Highland ride out Ardmai10

Ardmair Bay with the summer isles beyond. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but that is a dam sexy machine!

Highland ride out Ardmai11

Changed the oil before I went and did a few hundred miles with no loss so I think my previous oil loss must have been an hallucination!

Vibes seemed to be worse, staying with thebike higher in the rev range - or I've become more sensitive to them; either way I'll be checking the usual suspects and later looking to synch the TB's.

Also been offered a low miles barn find VFR750 for not very much so that's my next winter project Very Happy

Best
Dave

One thing I have found with the paralever rear drive is that the drive shaft has to be phased correctly or you get a real bad vibration from about 3000 up all through the riding range.
Mine was not done correctly and I was ready to get rid of it and go back to a K100 but I gave it one last chance and checked the drive shaft and it was about 3 splines out. I fixed it and all is good. My last run down to Guyra to see Saxon 7 was a beautiful smooth ride. It still needs a TB sync to smooth out the idle.

Cheers Saxon - yeah a good weekend for sure - kinda rare these days, usually the biking that gets squeezed!

Rick. Good advice mate. So does synching the TBs affects only the idle with no effect on vibes higher up teh rev range?
PO changed the shaft as the last one had failed so possible it's not synched. Are there marks to line up?

Cheers
Dave

Certainly is mate - I'm a great fisher of opportunity: like to hunt and catch my tea! Mackerel seem to be early this year - easy to catch and good eating if you don't mind the odd bone. Good fly fishing for trout on the west coast freshwater lochs as well buta cold easterly wind put paid to that idea. Pulled some creels (crab pots) with a relative instead - chance of an early lobster but no luck - still plenty of good edible crabs though.

You a fisher too?
Cheers
Dave

Yeah - I thought at first he was sticking two fingers up at the pop concert - if I was his age I reckon I would! Turns out he really is ill - a bloody good age though.

Absolutely! Here where I live is cool climate for OZ and we have trout,( mostly rainbows but some brown and brook.) English perch, golden perch, Murtray Cod, river blackfish and others. I like fly fishing, though am certainly not a purist...will fish for anything for fun! Just hours to the coast for all the ocean-going fishies...

Once you open the throttles the bypass air screw is overridden because it has equal vacuum at both in and out. So yes it only affects the idle.

With regard to the "phasing of the shafts" I shall do a small diagram and post it so Bert can put it in the How To section

Wow, there's no doubt Aussie fishing is brilliant - what an abundance! Here in this part of Scotland river fishing tends to be fly only, certainly for salmon which is unfortunately owned by the few and expensive and exclusive (and catch and rlease which to me gets a bit pointless) but the sea is still free and so are the brown trout lochs on the whole so that's where I tend to go as well as a small club that has rainbows in a pond. I qute like the fly - you can travel so light but anything goes in the sea and spinning or feathers usually if it's for food.

Maybe we should start a bikes and fish thread.... Wink

Cheers
Dave

Highland ride out Drive_10
Here tiz and I didn't even have to do much drawing.
Thanks to JO from Motobrick for thr pic that I modified.
As you can see I didn't get a pic of a complete drive shaft so I put a copy of the rear yoke in the position the front yoke would be in.
I have no doubt that now I have said that I couldn't find info on the shaft someone like Inge will come along and say "here it is Rick".

What I also meant to say was that as I said in a post elsewhere make sure the front and rear universal assemblies are firmly pushed into place.
There is an internal circlip that catches into a groove in the shaft on both universals.
If this is not done the shaft will float back and forth causing much more wear than would usualy take place and also making the shaft badly out of ballance as the rear uni tends to work forward.
This I believe is the reason for many premature failures of the rear universal.

A good idea! Fishing trips must be done by bike and any pics must show the bike as well as the fish.

Cool

A nice report and a great pic Dave, Ullapool is a grand run out, here's hoping later on in the year we may get chance to meet up when my excursions here and there are over give you time to stock up on the midge cream mate Laughing I hate the little swines. Mind you Ullapool has one of the best chip shops in the land .

Hope you don't mean The Seaforth. It's probably down to staffing changes but I was majorly dissappointed with it a fortnight ago
