I read somewhere of a particular part that is affiliated with the fuel pump that is not compatible with alcohol. Which part is it that turns to goo when exposed to ethanol?
The parts fiche lists a "vibration damper" - 16 21 1 464 628, I could not see any other part made of rubber on the fiche.
Thanks
Kevin

I recall reading of another web user who made a new damper from cut down in tank fuel hose as that is resistant to the alcohol in the fuel. I would think it may be worth US members asking the fuel company to pay for the costs with enough of you then they could be forced to meet the cost since it is the new formulation which causes the problem. Here in NZ a few years back the fuel companies ended up paying to fix people's cars where the fuel injection sprung a leak when they changed formulation here.

Good suggestion on the the fuel line for damper. I think I would be better off moving to NZ than trying to get a nickle out of the fuel companies, moving would be easier and more fun

So far I have been able to locate non-ethanol fuel in my area. some stations have caught on and are advertising no ethanol fuel - people are lining up at the pumps for it.

Timely post! Getting ready to re-install tank. Thanks for the heads up. Any other ideas on material to use?

Hi Steve,
The other product par excellence is Viton rubber a fluoroelastomer http://www.dupontelastomers.com/products/viton/viton.asp?redirect=vitondotcom

Viton should do the trick it is available in O Rings of all sizes and also in flat sheet of varying thicknesses. A web search on Viton rubber will give you a number of companies that do products made from Viton.

Hi KBike:
The fuel companies only put alcohol in the fuel because of government intervention (i.e. the clean air act). And we all know what happens when you get the government involved.
pisano9 is correct when he states that he "would be better off moving to NZ than trying to get a nickle out of the fuel companies"
Besides, I like NZ.

Hi WildR100,
You will get no argument from me with a country the size of Great Britain and only just over 4.3 million people increasing by one every 11 minutes, great scenery and a temperate climate I love it. We moved here just over 20 years ago and would not live anywhere else and I have lived in a lot of places around the world.
Regards,
