What am I missing? My engine was out for the last six months and this is what I get. It would not start, injectors working, sparks working. In desperation I removed the hose from the manifold to the air filter, now it starts!! Tried another air flow meter, same thing. Put the hose back on and it stops!! I took out the plugs and they were black, put in a new set and put everything back together and away it went. Tried again a while later and no start, took of the hose and it started. What is stupid me missing?

Normally it should just run on idle without the AFM, and stop as soon you open the throttle.

I`ll guess it`s another cause for the engine to run to rich, and connecting the AFM is the last drop pushing it over the limit.

1. Some weird wiring, so the Jetronic receives a starting enrichement signal?
2. Short in TPS or wiring, so the Jetronic receives a full throttle signal?
3. An open temp. sensor circuit wouldn`t affect things this much I`ll guess, but you never know (check both water and air temp.)?

Ok here is the sequence of events,
read Charlie99's post,
go to shed,
check pin 10,
reading open circuit,
check wiring cant find anything wrong,
wriggle connector and correct reading appears
assemble air trunking
press starter button
engine starts on first turn
Total time 5mins max
That will teach me to RTFM
Tomorrow I'll have a better look at the connectors as these spent a few hours under salt water two years ago, I'll report my findings here.
I presume when the ECU sees open circuit it increases fuel delivery? Why?

And.... we don't charge VAT on cyber troobleshouting!

Update, checked everything again tonight and water temp sensor gave the correct reading so put everything back together. Pressed starter button once to pump up fuel, pressed again and it started first turn even without the fuel enrichment to pin 4 connected. . Humming very nicely.
Yes this K usually is 8" above the land or water but two years ago I did have an "incident "and ended up with it 8" under water for about 3 hours.I dont know of any other K that was put the right way up by one of http://www.rnlisunderland.org/photographs/rnli/pg76ph39.html Got it back home and drained the oil, put the ECU's in a bucket of fresh water and washed everything down. Dried out the ECU's and put it back together, ignition module had lost one spark but the injection module worked!!. The starter clutch went intermittent but a few runs on diesel oil cured that. Some time later one of the coils went on fire and when we tested the other one it popped as well. We think it was boiling water internally. At the moment its running its original starter, AFM, wiring and other electrical bits.
It drives through a centrifugal clutch to a oil filled bearing block via a short shaft with two rubber joints and then through a toothed belt to the main fan. The pitch on the fan is matched to the K's power and it cruises around 50kph at 4000RPM on calm water.

88KE, On ONE lake? We were on Glencar, Gill, Key, Allen, Ree and Derg on our annual meetup last summer and then moved on to a few rivers and some sea trips in Kerry. We were extremely lucky with the weather, if it had been bad we would have got very little miles in.mWe hope to be back on Lough Ree for the May bank holiday so if you are around call in. The two craft at the start of the vid are K powered, the smaller one later on is powered by a 23hp Honda lawnmower engine.. The engine noise on the clips from my cam is not the K running rough but from a Briggs and Stratton V twin in the nose just under the windscreen which drives the lift fan. Eagle eye watchers may spot that the hand grips are R1100 complete with heat:)
Thanks to Charlie99 the K is running very well and I just need to rebuild the exhaust system and tidy up wiring and fuel lines and shes back ready to go. Anybody know of a (cheap) rev counter that works with it?

Anything the aftermarket can offer, as long it`s ment for wasted spark igniton system.

It`s using the coil pulse signal, some can be used on both a conventional and wasted spark, by changing a switchs position.
