Housebound and working thru my K do list.

Am I right in thinking that in order to push start my 85 8 valve K100 I should:

Put it in gear (2 or 3)

Short the clutch switch (ideally with a switch, or just the old fashioned way)

Hold down the starter button (to run the fuel pump run)

Can be done with a low (non-starting) battery but not with a completely dead one (fuel pump)

This process would be different on the 16 valve because of the way the fuels pump primes.

Is that right?

TIA

You don't need to press the start button. I never have when bump starting a K. (I think that the Hall Effect sensor senses that the engine is turning when you dump the clutch which gets the fuel pump running.)

Same process for 2V or 4V:

Put in 2nd gear.
Turn key on.
Pull in clutch.
Get it rolling.
Dump the clutch.

(I've bump started my K1600 that same way too.)

And very easy to do. I found my k bump starts better than any other bike I have ever had.
