While hunting up more details on substitute fuel pumps (I'm very cautious about fitting the wrong one, but don't want to pay full price - who would?) I came across these two PDFs from Bosch in Australia.

The catalogue: http://www.bosch.com.au/content/language1/downloads/BOSCH_Fuel_Pump_WEB.pdf

Says this: "There are a total of 7 universal electric fuel pumps available from Bosch, to replace the previous range of 72 electric fuel pumps." Which is promising, to say the least.

Then specs sheet: http://www.bosch.com.au/content/language1/downloads/fuelpumps.pdf

Number 0 580 464 070 has these specs: 52mm external diameter, 8mm outlet pipe, 3bar pressure (43.5psi), 130L/hour, 175mm long, 12mm inlet connection.

That looks almost perfect for us - as used in BMW 3 and 5 series, Holden Commodores here in Aus (therefore easy to find!) and a whole stack of other cars.

Now: I've never pulled out a K fuel pump and I'm not sure how the pump handles fuel input, or the extra details like how long they are.

Anyone see a problem with this? Is it a perfect plug-in replacement?

I bought a Fuel Miser brand pump for mine some time ago and it was a lot cheaper than a Bosch or the original. I can't remember the part No but the specs would tell if it was right. There a lot of pumps out there that work well with them. I used the pump from an EA falcon because I couldn't afford to buy one and it worked fine. I also fitted a ford one to a friends K75 about a year ago and no problems.

nice ......2 things ours has a ring around it that holds it height wise in the rubber mount .....maybe a clamp around the rubber mount would solve this

the pickup is 12 mm ....not really an issue ...but you would still use our filter in the absence of another

the current and flow + termination all looks ok jh

I saved my old original one and gutted it. I then got a small peace of PVC to put around the new one and slide it into the old one.

I shagged one going to Araluen and a EA Ford Falcon multi point injection pump worked fine but as before I had to use a couple of zip ties to hold it into the rubber thingy and change the connectors to a spade type.
