i booked in for the saturday night today ......

I'm scheduled to depart in a southerly direction on the Friday, dunno where I'd stay that night just yet, but will be in Urunga Saturday early arvo, latest, for the festivities. I might do the Pacific Highway, then inland on Summerland Way down to Grafton, then Waterfall Way, dropping into Urunga from Dorrigo and Bellingen. Itsa beaut ride if anyone's leaving Fridee and wants to tag along. No rush. No fuss. Just some scenery and enjoying the five or six hour ride, stopping for lunch somewhere. PM me for my mobile number...my route is not fixed and am happy to ride along with others on the New England Highway as well. Cheers.

read my mind twb ...hiway to lismore as im verry familiar with the back roads..bangalow , lismore, casino, grafton ..(besides it isnt a bad run through there...rather boring if you ask me ) .......my interest ,more especially the bit after grafton ..as i havent done that route yet .

to be honest my initial thoughts were to pass through stanthorpe ...etc ....but im having second thoughts about that ...our mate blakey wants to join in and im afraid the inland route sounds just too far for being comfortable for a one day ride ..( given that he has to travel that extra 100 ks or so more than us and alby another 150 ks on top of that )
maybe casino - grafton would be a good place for our friend k freak
to meet up .

i also wanted to do it on friday rather than make a dash of a run on saturday .....thats why i suggested 20th, 21st, 22nd etc ....

alby and blakey the lounges (yes there is two ) is still available for a friday morning leave ....

and crikey $45.00 a night at urunga is the best deal i have heard of in ages .....

Stanthorpe and the 'inland' route is a fair bit cooler than the coast, as K Freak would know, but it's easier for him. I don't mind a compromised route at all. Have you ever done the Lion's Road from Rathdowney over the border range? That'd be a tight, twisty moto-thrill, and a nice ride down from there to Lismore where we could meet up. I'd drop inland from Bangalow via Clunes off the Pacific Highway. It's less than an hour south to there from my abode. Hell, I might even ride over the Burringbar again just for fun. We've time to sort it. Gimme a bell when things firm up. I'm packing my Gerbings heated jacket liner in case the temps get below 20! (That's 68f for the metrically challenged) LOL

yes have done the lions road many times ...but casino would be the "natural " meet point another 35 ks past lismore just before the long stretch ...to grafton .

did the nebo -glorious .....dayborough..mt mee ..melany trip again yesterday .....3 seasons in one day ..rode home in the rain

the return over mt mee ---samford as easter traffic on the main roads was ...as predictable ....gross...

I will be leaving Stanthorpe when the temperature gets up enough to thaw the fuel. I was just looking at our records and that Saturday last year was our first frost for the year That should be around 8.30 - 9.00 with the first stop at Guyra for fuel then to Ebor where the temp will still be in the single figures (went through there last August and it was -1 Degree at 1.00pm) and then Dorrigo, Bellingen and on to Urunga for a late lunch and watch the rest roll in. Just a pleasant mornings ride.
I heard the Lions Road is out with a bridge needing repair, might pay to check that one.

hmm good tip mate will be keeping an eye on it ...kyogle council is renouwn for putting off repairs ...but prefer the m1 path down to the gold coast and beyond ,,,since the new sections have been added takes about 3/4 an hour off the trip

I prefer to stop and 'dine' at local restaurants and what Americans like to call 'Mom & Pop' places. I reckon large corporations like Macca's/Hungry Yack's/KFC don't need my hard-earned money. But if I catch scent of Macca's fries on the breeze I'm known to turn round and have a sample. I think they fan force the hot oil residue toward the highway so you're lured in, siren-like, as you pass.

What's the scoop boys, I'm at the point of having to buy new socks and jocks. Is everything under way? I have to recalibrate my speedo since I opened it, couldn't get that poxy needle back on the right spot so I'm running 20 ks under. Going to get a set of new cogs and try to photo the process.

Im still going too. not sure which way yet! I would like to see Leslie dam full at least once in my life! Good camping facilities with hot showers and Drinking water at the Washpool camp reserve and a couple chain off water.

As it turns out I've a meeting scheduled that I forgot about on Friday so I'll make an early start Saturday morning from here. My route is not fixed and am more than willing to meet up and chug along down the road with any other riders making their way that day. Waterfall Way, Summerland Way, and the inevitable Pacific Highway, all sound good to me in bits or whole. The more the merrier as far as a gaggle of cool, older K bikes are concerned. Who's going solo and who's got their favourite dame along for the ride? Or is this a buck's only weekend?

Here she is for those of you who've not yet spied the place and to make those overseas types jealous. Urunga's long term month of May (remember, this is close to Winter for us) average high temperature is 21.4c (70f) with the low average reaching down to a brisk 11.4c (52f). A pretty easy go, I'd say.

I'll be heading thattaway on Saturday and am available to ride along with the southbound crowd. Anyone settling their wife/partner/girlfriend in behind or dragging the mother-in-law along behind? Did I say that!?

As you know, Blakey, it's about 6-1/2 hours straight down the Pacific Highway for you from the Sunny Coast area (what town are you living in up there anyway?) to Urunga, traffic, Macca's stops and roadworks excluded. So you'll be doing alright if a leisurely Saturday lunch at the hotel is in the plan.

this doesnt allow for long breaks and is only a guide, but it sounds about right to me .

The Kingscliff BP (with a Macca's) on the other side of the Tweed is a great spot since it's so bloody easy to return to the motorway and it's only about fifteen minutes south of where I live (Varsity Lakes). Blakey might need petrol by then and the prices are reasonable and seasonable. Any holidays on that weekend? I'd stay out of Robina (too far to Macca's) since there aren't very many quick and easy places to meet off the highway.

Ballina's (also a Macca's) only an hour south (the new bypass is partially open) and then Grafton's (yep, a Macca's) a good next stop and place to decide if you'll wanna ride the inland route via Waterfall Way (No Macca's). Too easy.

Sorry guys, try as I can I cannot get the Mother in Law to jump on the back (or of the cliff for that matter) She is 90 after all. And we have too many dogs (3) and cows(2) for both of us to get away at the moment, so it's just me.
I am meeting Ulrich at Maitland and we will be riding to Walcha on Friday, wherever that is, I think it's in cold country, then moseying done to the coast Saturday morning. That is the plan I think.
And Blakey, I am actually leaving on Thursday morning, I hate being rushed or late.

walcha is a little east of tamworth ....and quite cool this time of year overnight.
i used to live a little north of there when i went to school (5th and 6th form). actually learned to ride a bike up there ....honda 90 stepthrough and a kawa 100 ag bike at the sweet age of 14....woohoo
but the good bit is the twistys down to the coast ....enjoy boys !!!

Here in Cnd, the weather is so miserable that I rode only 4 times this year (At least 400k each time) but far from what I am used to ride. I must be getting old

Oz has a shortage of skilled workers but what skills I am not sure. I have been out of the work force for 6 years now, retired.

Our O'fishal stats say 5% unemployed and the US is I think 9% but any stats person will tell you that if you torture the figures enough they will tell you anything.
