I guess you mean >>no 4<<. Remember, you need 2 for EACH case, so 4 in total...

Hi alex
Yes 2 are split and 2 are okay but I was going to replace all 4 and maybe paint the lids

46 54 2 300 039 is the BMW OEM part number if seeing your dealer is quicker. I paid AU$8.00 for each of them, last year before my ride out West, which in Australia ain't too bad. I 'never' buy things from the dealer but once in a while I can place my fingers in the trap and not have their tips sheared off.

Just a word of caution if you paint the lids be very careful to clean the plastic because if Armourall or similar has been used the silicon will cause havoc.
I tried to paint the lid of a used top box and ended up just throwing it out because I could not get rid of the silicon. I even trird prepsol and no success.

a word on painting the lids: I painted mine glossy black, but I have to be SO careful about swinging my boots over the cases to avoid scuffing them. And they scratch easier since they are the most outboard portion of the bike (ask me how I know Evil or Very Mad) I would recommend trying to clean them with 'Simple Green' if you can get it in your area, seems to clean very well and gives a bit of gloss. You can also use 'Pledge' or a similar spray furniture wax product, which also gives good results.

I won't use the polish that has silicon any more and only a wax or similar.
Many people use Mr Sheen to clean the perspex screens because it has the same refractive index as the perspex but it is loaded with silicon as is that plexus.
I clean the screen with water and a soft cloth and if it gets scratches I use Brasso to polish them out.
We sure got of topic here, Oh well what the heck.

Hi Ian,
Brasso may be a little harsh, there is a product from Meguiars called PlastX which is designed for the job and works superbly. I have been very pleased with the results.
