Ok, I posted before that I picked up a '90 K75S for a quite reasonable price. But the bike was last registered in 2008 and as near as I could tell had not been started, much less ridden since then. So it's taken a few weeks of work cleaning the tank-the tank was almost full and it is amazing what gasoline will dissolve in 16 years or just crud up. Anyway after a few weeks of cleaning, replacing the pump, filter and hoses and the outside hoses and arranging for refurbed fuel injectors - I took it out of the garage and tried it out. Took a few minutes of cranking but she started up.
HURRAH!!! Lots of smoke but that settled out after I let it run at 3K rpm for 15 minutes or so.
So now I will turn my attention towards replacing all the fluids as well as the engine oil, tranny and rear end that I've already done. some tuning and tightening of loose parts . And actually giving the machine a bit of TLC to make it pretty again.
I will also acknowledge that I dumped my Silver K75 this past week in San Francisco. Seems Muni has these very minor curbs around their rail tracks and I managed to hit one at the wrong angle and the worse happened. Minor road rash to my right hand and a bit of bruising on my left leg/ankle. But it only took me a couple of days to restore Silver to good order and I'll be better soon. Worst thing was the ride home with the window screen smashed and the left turn signal hanging on by one electric line.
