Hi everyone

Well it’s been a while, just getting back onto my K75s. Poor thing been very neglected, I lent it to a mate for about three years, don’t think he ever cleaned it once so it was in a right state when I got it back.  That was about three years ago.

I stripped it totally down ready to start a good restoration, as I’ve had it about 14 years and love the thing. I had everything laid out on the racking in me garage.

Then she declares she wants to move, well, one thing led to another and in the end it all got chucked into lots of transit boxes. I then put them round a mates place, who happened to run a bike repair and dealership. The lovely matey stuck it all in one of those great big forty foot metal containers and that’s where it has all sat for the last three years. Don’t think it was even opened. Well I’m sure you can imaging it is all further manky and mildewed etc from three years in a damp dripping container. I think I must be very very lucky indeed.

Well I’ve got it all back now except the frame and engine lump as I couldn’t get them in the car, so ready to start. But my god where to start.  Ha ha.

So a quick introduction again and I’m sure I will be popping up with loads of questions probably like “where the hell does this bit go” etc.

Looking forward to the epic that awaits.

Cheers

Ian

Welcome back.

Is this a new episode of Scrap Heap Challenge renamed as Scrap Hope Challenge.

But you are in the right palce, many before you have done this in varying degrees and the knowledge is there.

One thing to do is start a new thread for your restoration.

Then as you say a good look through what you have and the mechanical condition.

Given that you have time on your hands I would look at getting some of your parts now while you can play around for good prices. I think at this point I would consider

Replace everything in fuel tank.
Replace all vacuum lines, vacuum hoses.
Replace brake lines, redo master cylinders and calipers etc. Repair kits are available.
Refurb/replace injectors.
Watch your curved centre stand, they corrode on the inside and break. High risk of yours doing that. Simple solution is replace the entire assembly with one from 16v or K1100, straight bolt on.
Check out your cooling fan. The damp storage etc may well cause it issues.
Given that you have the bike apart I would open up at the clutch and rear main seal and replace them simply because you are so close. The seal will go on you anyway.

I know you have Brexit but I find I get parts from Germany and Holland that you will pay VAT on as a result of Brexit. But they will export to you ex VAT [typically about 20%] and you then pay the UK VAT and clearance fee. The prices I am paying suggest this is a much cheaper option. I found BSK Speedworks particularly good value. But when I wanted brake discs Motorworks were £140 ex VAT, tills.de were €104 ex VAT for the exact same EBC discs.

There are some UK companies will supply you with new stuff and www.bskspeedworks.com in Burton Latimer are fantastic for some stuff. They are K100 but a lot of parts are common to K75 especially fuel and brake components.

Hi Olaf
Thank you for such a great and full reply, I have been trying to reply for ages but my iPad keeps locking when I’m typing here not on anything else
I’ll try again nut shorter. Yes I intend to clean, refurbish and test everything as I still don’t have the engine and frame home yet. Everthing is totally striped so all you say will be replaced. iPad playing up again so I will hit send button

Deleted for you. Also moved to reno/customisation due to your previous Member's Intro back in 2018.
