Hi All,

Have a 1985 K100.  At higher RPMs, say 5000 or so, if I snap the throttle closed the engine dies.  Once it drops under 2000 RPM, popping the clutch will get it to fire.  Could this be the idle or throttle switch?  Ideas?  Thank you.

Check the exhaust valve clearance this can happen if they are tight.

Tight exchaust valve clearances will do that.

But also the TPS Throttle Position Sensor switch on the throttle bodies beside the coil cover cuts the fuel supply when you close the throttle, until the revs have dropped back to 2,000 rpm. You might need to check this is set correctly. You can disconnect it and it will [should] still run. I currently have it disconnected on my 83 RS.

Other things to check: Throttle body air screws and balance.  They should be set approximately 1 1/2 to 2 turns from lightly bottomed.

Z tube and throttle body air caps for cracks.

Air filter.

Something seems to be messing up the mixture when you close the throttle.  How is the idle when the engine is cold?
