I had another look at Kostenlot and it appears that the engine block is indeed cracked. It has been steadily dripping oil for quite a while now from somewhere around the cam cover - without looking I assumed the gasket needed replacing. Three days ago I refilled the radiator and by last night there was a puddle of emulsion in the middle of the oil. It's not the pump - that's dry. Given it's (almost) unknown history, there's a very high chance the PO was unaware that it was damaged.

Hands up front - one from Motorworks would cost £515 including shipping and I just don't have that much spare cash. Y'know - pensioners crying poor again Very Happy

I'll take that please Craig. March is fine - Dublin Port is only 90 miles away. I can Paypal you again closer to the date or bring the equivalence in Euros if that helps. Finding you should be relatively easy; just pull up in the Top filling station in the port.

I dumped the fluids out of the engine about an hour ago. The sump was more water than oil. It's not the head gasket because I changed that when I first found what looked like coolant in no.1 cylinder. As I took the old one off I inspected it very carefully for cracks and telltales - nothing. I was equally as careful when putting the new one on. I guess it could be the base gasket but I think that's unlikely.

No problem. Any idea when it was last run? I'm not worried about the usual 'rubber problems' because I'll have an engine to raid for parts.

Thank you. So a bit of a scrub-up and it can go straight in the frame - job's a good'un.

No problem. I'll not be over in the UK on four wheels for literally the foreseeable future (probably years in all truth) so I'll just keep looking. The cost of coming across to collect it isn't viable as it would amount to the best part of £500!!!! I did look up the cost of getting it shipped but that took the whole package to way more than buying an engine from Motorworks and letting them do the hard work.

Never mind. Even though it came to nothing, I appreciated the offer. Thank you.

Agreed to send my donor bike engine to Dai so he can get on with his project. It’s been taking up space in my garage too long and has moved house 4 times with me.

Dai & I only know each other from the K100 forum (the amazing creation of the one and only Crazy Frog)…so, how apt that on checking the engine over, I find a crazy frog hibernating in the clutch housing! Anybody in Ireland got a 2-valve engine for sale? 44271

No idea how or when it got into my garage but the gap under the door used to be quite big.

Safely extracted and relocated to my garden pond to rejoin his mates.

That is brilliant, both for the engine rescue AND the hideaway frog. Viva la forum!

It's gunna be 22C/72F degrees here today. What better thing to do but go for a ride in celebration of an incoming spring, glorious astrological springtime (19th March @ 20:06 Pacific Time).
Cool

Only 2 years… but if you had still lived there, I could have wheeled the engine down to you, in the time it took me to walk to the local shop and back to pick up a discarded half pallet to strap the engine to…and save you the expense of a courier too.

I’m just glad that the engine is going to a good home…and the crazy frog was also rehomed.

A cool 11 ºC here today, but just enjoyed a beer in my outside Tiki bar, listening to the gurgling of the pond water fall and wondering if the frog was thanking me for waking it from its slumbers and plunging it into cold water. (to be fair, I put it on a rock - it decided to get in the water and hide under that rock). Can’t be that cold though, the frog spawn in the pond has already turned into tadpoles. Spring is definitely here.Anybody in Ireland got a 2-valve engine for sale? Img_2910
