So I need to clean my fuel tank and replace the fuel pump and all the lines. I got the seat off, I got the knee board and left storage box out. I think I have removed all the screws, but the fairing lower still does not want to come off. Help!

I read that but it talks about removing radiator cover bolts and I don't see any

The tank comes off without having to remove the fairing.  Just unplug the electrical connector and remove the seat and the left knee pad so you can remove the fuel lines.  Remove the clips that hold the rear of the tank down.

Then the tank will slide right out.

Done this many times and its much easier with the lower left panel removed.

You need to look at the radiator grille from the left side and see there are 3 screws into the lower right hand side panel. They are hard to see but they are there. I undo those screws first, along with the ones on the laft side of the tank that go through the baffle, accessed after you remove the fairing left leg panel and storage box. There is a locating tab at the front top of the left faifing panel so that will hold it in place. Then you remove the bracket mount 10mm bolts [accessed after leg panel is removed] holding the panel and it should come free,

At this stage it takes me just 10 minutes to get all the stuff out of the way.

With that done you have free access to the fuel hose connections and the plug connector to the fuel tank that is located front left of the bolted tank on early Ks.

If you are removing the right hand lower panel there is a bottom screw fixing to the radiator panel from underneath at the very front, very easily missed.

Thanks, I found those 2 screws and it slipped right off. What a mess in the tank. Hoses were rotted and partially dissolved.  The fuel pump damper was rotted as was the screen. Lots of junk in the tank. I'm going to mix up some oxy clean with hot water and pour it in the tank and leave it sit for a few days. Maybe have to do it twice. already have the fuel pump and filter coming.

Chances are you need the plastic mounting and the vibration damper as well, if they were in the tank they will most likely already be toast or will disintegrate after. Same with in tank pipes but although they are same size as the outside tank ones you cant use those as they are not petrol resistant from the outside.

Make sure that your in-tank hose is grade 30R10, otherwise you'll be facing the same problem again in very short order. You'lll need a second mortgage to buy some though - you have been warned!

We buy it here and in Europe its commonly marked NBR/NBR fortunately you don't need a lot of it.

As Dai says....I know it too because I took pipes out of a tank and found they were for outside tank use. I figured they were in it 12 months or so and there was not much life left in them.
