Beware of K1100 parts being advertised by Dean Kutt from Newcastle on a Facebook Marketplace page. The shit has ripped me off $550 that I sent him for a Mystic Red K1100 fuel tank (complete) and a pair of temperature and fuel gauges. I have received a litany of excuses from Dean Kutt as to why he has not shipped the parts. I have requested that he refund my payment. He has not refunded my money. He no longer responds to my Facebook messages.

If you are buying a K1100 fuel tank be aware the tank changed with the change from ABS1 [91-93] to ABS2 [94-97] as there was also a frame modification.

I was unaware they were not interchangeable until this year.

My K1100LT is Mystic Red and some years ago I picked up a brand new tank in my colour but I have no idea which it is, ABS1 or ABS2. If yours is ABS1 a K100LT tank will fit.

Thanks for that info, Olaf.
I was not aware of the difference.
My K1100RS is a 93 model, so ABS1.

Cheers,

Andrew

The tank changes have NOTHING to do with which version or even if a bike has ABS.

The internals of the tanks changed - both with respect to fuel pump mounting and fuel level sender.

The K1100 frames did change from a single member to a V. You can use a 94-on tank on a 93 and earlier bike. Not 100% sure about the other way around.

Pegasus , can I kindly point out that as the creator and main administrator of the "BMW K75 K100 K1 and K1100 Series Pure Chopped and Rescued" page on face book that Dean Kutt has never been a member of the group.
We have a great vetting system in place for new members on that group and the "arsehat" Kutt did not pass muster.
As you are now aware through private messages between us I have gone through every K Group I am a member of or Admin on and their is only one common group that you and Dean are both members of and it's not the Pure Chopped and Rescued group.
I am working closely with the Admin of this group to try and resolve the issue you have with Dean Kutt regarding a refund even though it has nothing to do with me or the groups I created or admin for on Facebook.
Please remove the referances to the "BMW K75 K100 K1 and K1100 Series Pure Chopped and Rescued" group from your post as your complaint has absolutely nothing to do with the group.
Cheers

As regards the use of a later (1994) K tank on an earlier, single backbone frame, it works with the '86-on design.

The change on the K1100 in 94 had a frame change under the tank among other things and this coincided with the change from ABS1 to ABS2. ABS came standard on all K1100 as far as I know.

For most, the easiest way to identify this difference visually is if there is ABS1 or ABS2 on it.

Year is not always reliable so its easier to use other indicators, 97 K1100 had a 1994 build date, my 83 RS has an 86 registration on it.

I have lots of tanks sitting here, one of them a brand new K1100 one and then I have another K100LT one and two more early K100 tank. Three types.

Unless I have a one off tank, the tank changed with the change in the frame to a V, and the earlier tank does not fit the later frame. So if you get a tank off an ABS1 bike, it doesnt fit an ABS2 one.

The way I can tell from the parts catalog is that the 94 and later K1100 tank was also used on 94+ K75RTs which have a single backbone, non-V, frame.
