If the size is right and the terminals in the correct places then it should be OK. There are some batteries where the terminals are opposite to the standard battery and it does cause problems if you need to connect a charger to the positive terminal.

I don't see that there would be any problem using it. 18Ah was the size of the small battery used by many of the Ks with a larger 26Ah unit in all the police models.

Thanks.

I’m going to buy the battery and hope for the best.
It’s made in China which I assume is why it’s cheap.
I will buy it and hope it lasts me for at least 12 months.

Cheers

We here in Germany use the Kung Long WP 18 or WP 22 !
Great and cheep battery.

I have the Kung Long WP22-12 12V 22Ah in both my bikes.
With and without ABS.

Lasting already 5 years and starts all winter over.

I have to agree, why spend your money on cheap parts that won't last long, it is sure to let you down and cost more to get sorted.
Don't worry too much about the Ah rating is the cold cranking amps (CCA) which is the important number and a modern battery is much better with CCA than an old mower battery.

The CCA is stated as Max current 270A which is quite good enough for a K100 and I don't see anywhere except your post Bob that it is an "old mower battery" and most of the batteries available nowdays are made in China

I happened to need batteries for both my 2013 R1200RT-P & the '09 K1300GT, both of which have the same part number/size/cca & etc., requirements per BMW. Having only one Vietnam-made Westco 12V20P AGM and one German-made Exide FLA 170cca in stock at the shop where I work, and needing them like right now rush today gotta have 'em, I bought the both of them. I could've also bought the BMW Exide Gel for twice the price, a very good battery, but I'm a bit skint so I opted for the cheaper of the three choices.

It has been yonks since I carefully poured acid through a squirmy rubber hose from a cardboard shrouded box into the tiny holes under the plastic screw caps of a lead/acid battery, doing the safety squint, of course. After waiting half an hour I topped the plates up a coupla mm's more with distilled water to the max line then set to charging it with my trusty Yuasa 1.1 amp 'tender'. It started out at 12.45 volts and as the battery case warmed up it slowly rose to 12.5, then 12.65. It wants an amp per hour. It'll be midnight before it's ready. Meanwhile, the Westco AGM was a freshy with a date stamp of August 2020 on it. I whacked the old Noco Genius 1.1 amp charger to it and in half an hour it was glowing green for go at 100% and 12.8 volts. I haven't yet decided whether the RT-P will get the old tech FLA or the AGM in the K13. Both bikes get ridden regularly.

I'm the type who manages five or more years from most batteries, typically. It'll be interesting to see how I fare with the two of these having set them up the very same day. Notes have been jotted down. Strictly for comparison's sake, these two batteries are the equivalent to a typical K bike 51913, or the smaller of the two battery choices in Bricks.

I can make cheap last, and I can sometimes have a failure on an expensive Li-Ion in 19 months. Let's see how we go with these two.

this looks similar to the battery I am thinking of buying. Web sites state these batteries are used in alarm systems, ride on toys, etc and doesn’t mention motorcycles.
for $79 Australian dollars I’m thinking of giving it a go.
any opini9ns?

thanks

Rick read my post, I never said that this one was an old mower battery. The reference to a mower battery was a member on here who did use a mower battery because it was a little cheaper despite weighing about as much as a small sheep.

I do recall Blakey saying he used a battery purchased from a mower shop and that it had been a good battery so I really don't think your argument stacks up.

I bought one for my 84 K100RT a couple of weeks ago...its 32Ah and 330CCA at my local lawnmower shop, €48. Golf cart batteries do fine.

Hi

Thanks to everyone who replied.
I purchased the battery from an electrical store Jaycar for $76.
It is very similar to the Kung long battery in the above post.
The battery is going in the Bmw k75s.
So far so good.
Not certain the best charge rate for these batteries. 1amp, 3 amp or 6?

Cheers

The rule of thumb is that you should never charge a battery at more than one-tenth its rating in amp hours. Meaning that a 20-amp battery should be charged at no more than 2 amps over a 10-hour period, assuming a constant rate trickle charger and not an automatic charger (Battery Tender-brand, for example)  which switches itself on and off - as well as pulses to eliminate or inhibit sulfation in FLA and AGM batteries - according to the battery's voltage level. Having said that, I will often 'kickstart' a dying/discharged battery with a 6 or 10 amp boost to get it back to a reasonable voltage level, but only for short periods of time. If it's dying it's dying and generally cannot be brought back to life for very long.

My three 'automatic' battery chargers are 1.1 or 1.5 amps with one switchable from .9 to 3.5 amps, with either 6 or 12 volt plus a lithium mode (non-pulse). I also have an old-fashioned, non-pulse analogue gauge charger like gramps would've used that is switchable at 3, 6 & 10 amps.

To breathe life into this thread. I use SigmaTek AGM wheelchair batteries rated at 22AH here in 'merica. Only US$50 total.(price, tax, and shipping). My battery gets changed every 3 years so no longevity stats. I use a CTEK charger with an AGM setting to maintain.
