Hello Everyone,

I just joined the forum. I have a 1985 K100RS that I've owned since 1991. Unfortunately, my bike sat dormant for the past 12 years. I got it started yesterday just by replacing the battery and adding fresh gas. There was old gas in the tank so I was expecting the fuel pump to be frozen and my injectors to be clogged. Not the case. The motorcycle gods were on my side.

So I'm now on the the path of getting it back on the road. As you can expect after sitting for 12 years, it needs some TLC with all new fluids, filters, potential hoses, splines lubed, cables lubed, etc.

In addition, I now have the gear position switch issue so I'll be investigating that too (when I do my spline lube).

Welcome!  Sounds like you dodged a big bullet with the old fuel.  The gear position switch should not be that much of a problem.  Several of us here have had good luck refurbishing them.  I have done two of them myself.

After such a long sleep, replace all the fuel hoses, outside and inside the tank. 
It would be a miracle if the crank gasket will not start to leak on the clutch during the first miles...
You can avoid to pay for a brand new clutch disc by changing the gasket before it's contaminated by the engine oil (and the gearbox gaskets by the same time).
I've been restoring BMWs for many years, if they stayed unused for more than 3 years, this leak is systematic soon after they run again.

I've brought many Ks back to life after long slumbers and never had any of them foul the clutch. I have bought a couple that already had a dried out clutch nut O-ring though.
