I'm replacing the timing chain components at the moment, with the front most piston, #3 on TDC the valves are closed. Everything as it should be except the timing marks on the cam sprockets, crank sprocket and crank keyway notch are no where near where they are suppose to be according to the the Haynes manual.
Illustration 23.3 in the Engine section page 2.21 shows the crank keyway notch at 6 oclock and the counter weights at 12 oclock, on my crank with the counter weights at 12 the keyway is at 10 oclock.
Are all the timming marks just for K100's?

Wait a minute, I think I got this backwards, cylinders are ALWAYS numbered 1,2 3... from the front closest to the timing chain but this engine fires 3,1,2 so it is the last piston at the back of this engine that needs to be at TDC? Is that right?

If it was running alright, just set the timeing marks where they are supposed to be without worrying which piston is at TDC. Then remove old chain and replace with new.

You should have both manuals (Clymer and Haynes).
The Clymer seems to be more detailed.

#3 is the cylinder closest to the coils and should be at TDC on all K75 models when mucking about with valve or ignition timing. Here's a useful article if you wanna get funky with your ignition timing when you're whacking it all back together. BTW, it does need to be marked correctly upon disassembly, and you do have a timing light? Good luck with that and please let us know how you went. Cheers.
