Hi All,
I recently purchased a 'barn find' K100RS 4Valve 1992 with ABS. Hasn't been started for 6 years and needs a lot of TLC. Odo shows 147K which I believe is correct. But it is complete and comes with some history and the Clymers repair manual. I have started ripping it apart and found the usual suspects of buggared fuel pump/level sensors setup, filthy tank, stuffed fuel hoses and it needs solid cleanup an repaint. With tank off, I gave it a new battery and a shot of 'start ya bastard' in the airbox. All the dash lights lit up, hit the start button and it turned over and fired up for a second. Sweet! Gears all select nicely and clutch seems to work. Long way to go but looking forward to the challenge.
I have owned several BMW's consecutively over 25 years including an '86 K100RS 2 valve for 4 years back in late 90's. My current rider for past 7 years is an ex military police R1150RTP which I love. I am rusted on to the BMW brand.
The opportunity to buy the project K100 came out of left field 2 months ago and it is my first serious undertaking like this. I am basically retired and have a great shed to pull it apart in. There was a solid rats nest (no rats) behind the radiator. Fortunately there were only 2 chewed wires which were easily fixed. In the middle of the nest was a $2 coin which was a bonus cashback!
Not planning to make it a cafe racer style like so many others, but I prefer to restore to the original look and feel without going overboard. Won't be concourse but a nice example of what is a 28 year old bike.
Looking forward to being part of the forum and maybe catching up with some K riders in the Brisbane-Gold Coast and northern NSW areas.
