Hey Ya'll, Got the bug to ride early last spring so I went looking for a
70's to 80's vintage bike. Hadn't ridden anything but Triumphs and that
was back in the late 60's in high school. Had a friend back then that
was in love with BMW's so when I saw an 85 K100 RS for sale for $1600
with 52,000 mile and new clutch and heard the nickname flying brick I
said lets ride. The man I bought it from had the bike since 19,000 and
had taken good care of it with all the service done to it ( saw the
records) . He had dropped it a few times so the trim had some dings but
after dropping it twice myself and my friend dropping it twice...well
she ain't pretty but she sure do fly. Just wish I knew how fast...speedo
problems. I have put on about 5000 miles this past year. Down here in
southwest Virginia the riding season, especially for K100's (hot
engines), is good and long. I use the name ironbutt because I feel after
two round trips of 623 miles in 10 hours to Canton Connecticut and
back, one last November and one this past March, stopping only for gas
and restroom I believe I've earned the name. As of this weekend she sits
in my shed getting her fluids changed, signal and horn issues fixed and
hopefully the speedo and tach issue rectified. I look forward to
becoming part of this forum family and hope to see many of you out on
the road. I hope to be making a trip to Redding California this fall to
see my daughter and grandson. The brick is the only way I can afford to
do it. Oh did I say she fast...
