Does anyone know of a bypass that will allow me to start the bike whilst on its side stand? (preferably without hacking into the loom or general splicing - as I probably just wont bother)

For a 1990 16v.

Cheers

Unplug the 2 pin plug near the rear master cylinder reservoir and put some strands of copper wire round the 2 pins in a figure 8 and plug it back in. I've done it a couple of times and it works fine.

Contact Ring - Part 61121459998

Plug it in instead of the side stand switch at two wire (green/yellow and green/red) connector under the right side cover.

It's just a connector with an exposed loop of wire.  You could cut that wire and put a switch in the circuit very easily.

There are two wires to the side stand switch:
Green/Yellow - Power from the kill switch on the right combo switch
Green/Red - Power to the 86 terminal of the fuel pump relay

FYI: For 94 and later K1100s the side stand switch works a bit differently. It grounds the 85 terminals on the Motronic relay and starter relay via a brown/blue wire.

The problem I have is that when I try to start the engine with the side stand down I usually wind up flooding the engine, making it a b1tch to start after I realize the stand is down.

After owning one for 5 years now, I now remember to put the stand up over half the time.
