Why you ask? I have always liked the Ongar K75 conversions and when I found a immiculate R100rs fairing for only £35 I thought I`d have a go.
How? First and hardest bit was drilling the headstock for the fairing spider, you should use a 6.8mm drill bit then follow with a 8mm x1.0 tap(bmw use a 1mm thread)I was a bit unwary of this so i drilled with a 8mm bit and I used slightly longer bolts with locking nuts inside the headstock, you could spot weld these-if i was going to do it again i would go the 6.8mm route and tap,the metal around the headstock is quite thick.
I put the tree as far toward the top of the headstock as i could without hitting the bolts that hold the handlebar risers on, i also `nibbled`(with an anglegrinder the area of the fairing bracket/tree that the bolts touched to allow for full lock(almost but not quite).
The lowers were fitted but are not in a very good state at the moment, I bolted them on and more angle grinder where they touched the engine.
When riding you are in a still pocket of air and you hardly get blown around when passing trucks, the lowers kept a surprising amount of air and rain off of you legs.
You may notice that it is not the most immaculate K100, because i fitted the fairing then it was going to be tidied, but a nice lady knocked me off of it so its a wright off, I`m not sure if it will evolve as i`m waiting on word from the solicitor and have lost the verve for the project.
The third pic is of the damage.
