Hi guys, I'm close to finish with my project and yesterday I decided to go for a run and I loved the bike. But sadly it went out after 10 km.. I just put in 10 liters of fuel and all the electronics seems to work fine, blinkers, speedo, fuelpump and startermotor but I couldn't get it started.

I have wired in a koso db-01rn speedo which during the run got a signal from the high beam (which was not on) and also the fullcapacity was low (around 10 liters??). So I suspect at short circuit have happened and all the fuses seemed okay so I'm pretty sure it could be something with the ignition, since everything seemed fine but I wouldn't start.

any ideas on what to look for? This is my first K-bike and I'm no expert, still learning!

Having studied the photos i believe the problem to be.Being seen naked in public caused the K
to feel  EMBARRASSED hopefully she will get used to flaunting her sexy lines and not try to hide in a recovery van  lol!

I don't know what's wrong, i pet her every day.. Maybe she feels more safe in the van than with me on the back Mad

First thing to do is to pull the plugs and see if they are wet or dry.

Good idea, I guess wet will mean ignitionproblems and dry is fueling  Out for a test ride, and the bike died! 212902

While your there, if they are wet you can check for spark. Be careful while checking for spark not to ignite any excess fuel. A fire extinguisher can be handy. Out for a test ride, and the bike died! 652573

Wet can also mean an over-fueling problem which created an ignition problem. Smile

Great answers i really appreciate them, now I have an idea of what to do Out for a test ride, and the bike died! 112350 I have had the EFI unplugged during the build so that's my first step to make sure it is plugged in with a good connection. I'll check the plugs, and the the hall sensor as well.

A few simple things


The plug into the fuel tank is now unprotected in yours, be sure its a good tight fit. If that dislodges you lose fuel pressure and no fuel.

The plug under the seat same thing, dislodge and it dies.

Now one other since I ran into it on my 'new' RS on Friday. PO did everything inside the gas tank and receipts etc for pump and so on....so my 7 litre orange warning light came on about 130 miles.......all good......except about 140 it ran out of juice.......open tank still looks like half tank......last time I looked in it all looked good........but now the fuel pick up was way up.....it didn't even take 14 litres to 'fill' it. I still had 7 litres left in the tank. I haven't fixed it yet but I know I can do 10 miles after orange light comes on before running out....

Total cut out is usually something simple.....

Not sure what plug you mean, do you mean the fuelpump plug is unprotected? 
I might check the fuel pickup as well, I have had turned the tank upside down a couple of times since working on it.

The plug that plugs into the bottom of the tank. If it gets knocked loose or is not a very tight fit it can work loose. I have had it happen.

Honestly I'm still not sure what plug you mean. sorry.. But I have found out the ignition is fine, so I must be a problem with the fueling. 

The EFI is connected, and I think the fuelpickup is fine, since the bike was able to start up on just around 1 liter of fuel before the testride.
I have now taken off the tank and there was fuel in the two fuelhoses so guess the fuel is reaching the injectors?

If you don't have a gauge to test the fuel pressure a crude test of the fuel system is to disconnect the fuel line that goes from the tank to the top of the fuel rail.  Point that towards a bucket or other receptacle and hit the start button.  It should pump fuel out of that line.

Thanks for the answer I will try that. I'm wondering if it could be a clogged fuelfilter since the fuel hoses didn't have much pressure when i took them of the tank so it's a good way of testing it  Out for a test ride, and the bike died! 212902

Alright, I'm pretty sure it's the fuel filter. I just tried pulling of a hose from the tank and pretty much nothing came out, and I guess it should be squirting out right? So I think i will order a new fuel filter  and try:D

Remove the fuel filter and try top blow through it. When the filter is clogged you will find it difficult.

Can you please update your signature on your profile to include the year and type of K!00 you own? This helps a great deal with the quality of answers you will get from people on this forum. There is enough variation in the parts on various model years as to cause confusion or misinformation. For example, is your K100 pre- or post-1985? Is it an RT or RS model?

I am still wondering is the fuel pick up in the correct position.....my K100RS 'runs out' of fuel with less than 13 litres used for this reason. The previous owner replaced the lot and it all works correctly but he did not put it back in the correct position. If my tank was empty, like yours, and I put in 10 litres, ran it abit and then did 10 miles I would be 'out of fuel' too.

No it didn't! I took out the fuelfilter and it seemed all good, but I noticed the clip closest to the bottom of the tank fell of very easily so I suspect there has been a leak! 
I put in the same fuelfilter, and it fired right up Out for a test ride, and the bike died! 212902

Since it was able to start and run on just 1 liter,  before going to the gas station I don't think I'll have any problems with that I the near future.
