Ok, so we had the worst storms last night and my bike was not covered....started it today and really almost didn’t get it started....sounded like cylinders are firing crazy.l.lwell I managed to take it out on a run to get it warmed.and in higher gears it’s fine now but when I come to idle or give it gas in first gear it chugs and hesitates and vibrates real terrible but once it’s in higher rpm it’s fine...you think this sounds like water in the gas or water getting into the engine and messing things up? To note when I open my gas cap water was getting in...thanks....

Better to put dry gas and then fill the tank or just drain what’s in there and fill it up ?

What is meant by this statement—you opened the fuel cap in the middle of the downpour, or condensation runs into the tank when you open the cap? The rim of the cap opening has a drain port design to limit water infiltration into the tank. If a large amount of water has been dumped into the tank, replace the fuel.

I think it is more likely that electrical connections have been affected and the moto needs more drying time; however, a machine with good wiring and protected connectors should be able to run in rain without electrical problems. Problems with rain affecting performance indicate to me a need to inspect the condition of wiring and connectors.

Did you replace the z-hose from which oil was being emitted onto the engine block?

Ok, after I rode it , got home and let it sit for 40 min it was fine.....we had record breaking rainfall last night and storms which must have gotten to the wiring.....it never has issues in the rain , this is the first time it ever was effected my moisture....yes I replaced the breather hose......oh and when I open my gas cap , water drains into the tank. I’m pretty sure I could use a new one...i usually keep a rag handy and hurry and soak it up as I open the cap .....im defiantly gonna have to inspect the wiring , it’s wierd cuase it’s never had issues....I ride in rain all the time...also I forget to cover it a lot in the rain......I suppose I should start at the control unit and start checking wiring from there?....

#1 If you have the cap orientated around the wrong way the drain port will be blocked. #2 The drain tube or hose could possibly be blocked. #3 The seal around the tank cap or base may be compromised. Where I live torrential downpours are a given and I've never had a problem with water in the tank.
Regards Martin.

There’s a tube? So I took off the whole thing 2 months ago to change fuel filter and never seen a tube or anything....I did notice a little hole ...well it’s hard to describe , I’ll take a picture tommorow when the rain stops but if there is supposed to be a tube or hose then I definitely don’t have that ! Lol

Put a match into the tank this will separate the petrol and water

Water can get in the gas cap if there's enough of it around.  Back when I used water to wash my bikes (now I just use cleaner wax) I'd often find a little water above the flap if I opened the cap.

There's a kit to replace all of the gas cap seals. 16119062461

Under the fuel tank there is a small square plastic box (accumulator) attached to the frame rail. The fuel overflow pipe and the water drain pipe sit in this box. The box has a hose that runs down near the rear master cylinder and drains on to the ground or rear wheel. Any water or fuel that goes into the accumulator should drain through the hose. Apparently if the accumulator is missing you can just have two hoses draining down to the ground. Check the two tubes on the bottom of the tank for blockages.
Regards Martin.

Lack of gaskets would possibly be a major contributor to water getting into the tank. Water in gas? 161205

The gas cap should open back towards you.

You will see a single small hole in the recess that's at the lowest point on the left. The gas cap assembly has a larger hole so that the hole in the tank is not covered.

There is a pipe inside the tank from this hole that comes out the bottom under the tank.

Get some pipe cleaners and you can use them to clear this pipe so any water can drain through it and out the bottom.

If you have an accumulation of water when you open the gas cap this will be your problem. If you have no accumulation of water then the gasket is the more likely issue.
