Is there anything rarer than a tank bag for the K1100LT models?  From time to time nearly any accessory you can think of comes up used in the market but the tank bags for the LTs seem to have vanished from the earth. I've a couple of BMW bags from both the airheads and an old K-bike, but the unusual base design for the LT models is a rare - and necessary - part to make these usable.  Anyone have a lead on where an LT base can be found?  TIA

They come up on eBay and in strange places.

Finding one in good condition is a problem but some time back I just happened on one that came up locally still in its bag having sat in a bike shed for years. Naturally I grabbed it but they are still out there.

The bags seem to suffer more than the bases and often get separated.

A few notes on K1100 tank bags:

1 - Try to buy the base and bag together.  The zippers between them can vary, making a base from one set incompatible with the tank bag from another.

2 - You will also need to track down the brackets that attach to the tank that the ends of the straps attach to - parts 71602304456(L) 71602304457(R)which are now NLA from BMW.



3 - If the straps are stretched you can get them repaired at a custom automotive/marine upholsterer.

4 - Be careful turning hard lock left as the tank bag can hit the horn button - which can be embarrassing if you've backing out of a campground very early in the morning. DAMHIK

You can also purchase Bagster brand tank bags made specifically for K1100s.  But they're not cheap and you need to buy the base(a.k.a. cover) and bag separately.

Shortly after I went on the record with my lament that K1100LT tank bags are nowhere to be found a beauty came up on the MOA marketplace site.  It was so beautious  that someone else beat me to it! 
Duck, my K1100LT has the metal fittings on the tank, so at one time the previous owner had a bag to go with it.  I've a couple of OEM tank bags now, so if I can locate a base, I'd be willing to gamble on the zippers matching.  
Years ago when I began riding airheads, I had a very nice Marsee tank bag on an RS model.  With that particular bag, I discovered that turning the bars to the right approaching full lock (as when making a tight, slow turn) can move the kill switch.  Now that will catch your attention, and very quickly!  Fortunately, I saved it. 

Good that you already have the tank clips.

I don’t think it’s ever been used. The rain cover came straight out of the factory plastic bag.
