Hi Guys

Just purchased a winter project - a non running 44,000 mile 1987 K75C that has had quite a bit of work done to it. The owner parked it up in the garage many years ago and his son has spent the last year working on it. His mom eventually got fed up with it taking up space in the garage and I think the boy also lost interest in the project.

I have started working my way through the bike and came across a pipe coming out of the crankcase just below the radiator and above the timing cover. This pipe then inserts onto another thicker pipe which is terminated with a hex nut i.e. it doesn't connect anywhere.  I can't find any info on the function of the pipe and am curious about it. My 85 K100 does not have one.

Here is a picture. Appreciate any info.

That was some sort of California crankcase breather that was found to be not needed.  If you like, you can cut it off close to the block and plug it there.

Very nice photo...

So, while you have that stuff out, replace the fuel lines as you can get at them easily. They will be hardened and break down causing leaks and other issues.

Thanks guys. I've replaced all the pipes and noticed a slight split on the crankcase breather tube that must be the cause for all the oily crud under the air cleaner housing.

Just bought a non running K75C. S_tube11

I also had a lot of difficulties removing the top part of the air cleaner housing. It turns out that the pipe was stuck/melted onto the housing. Also, it had a 1-inch split! I'll add that to my next order as well.

Think I will have a much better running bike come next Spring ( I am in Michigan and winter is already here).

Cheers

Thanks Duck, that is a such great resource. I have a Clymer Manual, but it can only cover so much ( and showed no details of the "californian breather tube").

The info that is available here and on the web is fantastic when you are stuck working on the bike in the garage at 2am and need some help !

Cheers
