Guys, I have just had a fantastic new paint job done on the tank but came into the garage this morning and it's leaking, I have the tank off now and have tracked this hole down.

Pinhole in tank, can it be repaired? HELP! 20181110

Now question is, is there anything I can use to plug this? Was thinking possibly JB Weld? Is there anything else? Last resort is have it welded shut and also use a tank sealer. Then it will need respraying too :-( nightmare!

I've patched LFB's tank twice now with the top stuff, once because of corrosion and once because of damage at the front of the tank after the PO was t-boned.

Oh - and check the other side of the tank in the same place.

I've made the same type of repair as Dai on my tank.  I didn't purchase a specialised product because I had polyester resin on hand.  No issues with the repair so far.

That's great guys, thank you. Since I posted I have now lost confidence in the tank, I suspect there could well be other small holes so have emptied the gas and will have it welded, if I cant weld then will use this stuff and also line the tank and have it resprayed.

Can anyone recommend a decent lining kit?

Caswell epoxy gas tank sealer is what I use for this kind of problem. You need to be careful if you live in the US where they contaminate all our fuel with ethanol .That crap can eat thru a lot of products but this will stand up to it

I also used a polyester resin with glass fibre on a steel boat fuel tank 25+ years ago. (Multiple pin holes on the flat bottom.) My son still has the boat and it is still sound. Maybe 15 years ago, similar on a steel small Yamaha bike tank.

Only caution: ethanol fuel will likely affect it, so another good reason not to use E10 or similar.
