Hi everyone

Bike is stripped down so no problems there but I want to junk the whole ABS system, it has played up for the last couple of years.

Tired to find search engine on here but failed miserably so has anyone either done it in its entirety or experienced the process.

Want to get it all sorted before reassembly

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian, welkome.

Short answer is yes, on my K75. List the questions you have and after the weekend (I'll be away on a bike ride) I'll try to answer them.

Cheers

Easy peasy. You just need to replace the ABS brake lines with non-ABS lines.

Cheers guys

I thought it would be quite easy but working from brake lever end:

Is the lever and reservoir the same
Presume run a hose with splitter to both front calliper
Can I use the callipers I have or do they have to be changed to non ABS ones
Front discs can I use then and just remove the sensor ring
Rear disc same can I use it
Rear brake pedal to master cylinder can I just change hose
Rear master cylinder to rear calliper, same just re hose and use same calliper
Remove all rest of hoses and pipework

Electrics:
Remove rear brain and relays
Have you just left harness bit there or chopped it out. Same with any other redundant wires

That about all I can think of at the mo

Cheers

Use can just use the old masters, rotors and calipers.

Chopping out the wiring to the brain in the tail is optional. The ABS is a separate electrical system. Only thing I'd be careful of is making sure the power wire can't short to anything.

I'd do something like this with the front:

I removed the ABS hardware from my bike a couple years ago but left the wiring in case I ever wanted to go back.  Last winter in the process of rebuilding the bike from the frame up I had the wiring harness off and decided to remove the ABS wiring in the interest of simplicity.

The day before, I cleaned the harness in dish detergent and hung it up to dry overnight.  Starting at the ABS brain connector I unwrapped and removed the wiring, rewrapping with cloth electrical tape as I went along.  It took about 3 hours to remove the ABS and rewrap the remaining wiringK75s ABS removal Dscn2810

When finished the harness looked as good as new and was about 25% smaller.

That looks fantastic, think I will go that way. My only worry was that something else would be reliant on an element of the ABS wiring and then it would all go wrong as electrics are not my strongest point

Cheers
