hello,

Does anyone know if the tank caps of later BMW models like the R1150GS or so will fit in a K100RS 1985 tank?
Would be nice to upgrade this black plastic thing.

No they won't. The K has 4 concealed M4 screws. The R11xx has 5 or 6 visible allen fasteners. The hole in the K tank is large enough to put your hand in, the R has a much smaller hole. To replace the fuel filter of a R11xx there is a manhole on the inner side of the tank.
Maybe you can make it fit but just as easy as any Japanese fuel cap.

Are you certain the exterior is plastic?

There is this example and another in the attached photo but there also seem to be several after-market caps to fit K-bikes, too.

I like the oem cap because my tank bag can sit on top of it without a lump from the cap taking up space within the bag.

finished my gas tank today and installed the gas cap. Looks killer

+1 to liking the tank badge! and the tank too for that matter.  Did you buy the badges or make them?

the tank badges are available for sale ...not cheap though

Same here Dai.  I tried it once but just couldn't develop any kind of liking for it.  It was disheartening to learn that some people I knew on a casual basis were in fact huge idiots
