The evolution of the K1100RT lead to the LT version, with some extra bells and whistles.  I'm in the process of purchasing one via eBay.  It's taking some considerable time to have it hauled to me, so I've been trying to satisfy my impatience by learning what I can about this model from on-line sources.  The K1100LT fairing has 4 rocker switches up near the windscreen.  All other BMWs I'm familiar with have those switches on the handlebar covers.  Can someone tell me what they control? I'm guessing one or two may raise/lower the windscreen, but the others?
Sorry for such an inconsequential question, but waiting for this new purchase to arrive has me  bounce

There never was a K1100RT, that finished with the introduction of the K100LT in 1988.
The 4 switches below the screen are dummies and can have the OEM rocker switches put there for what ever purpose you intend. I used one position for the spotlights and used two of the other holes to mount the control for my oxford heated grips. The switches on the handle bar cover are for ABS, Emergency flashers, electric screen adjustment (pre 1994 models) and heated grips. 1994 and later had the electric screen adjustment on the left hand control block.

Thanks Rick.  I guess that particular model has got the rider's desire for switches covered, big time.  Four dummy switches, eh?  Amazing.
What about that light there between them?  Is it practical?  It looks to me like it would shine right in the rider's eyes.

The light in the middle points down. I assume the purpose of it is to illuminate a map in the top of the tank bag.

BTW:  It's the exact same part that was used as a dome light in BMW cars of the era.

As said, 4 dummy switches but the map light is good. Being a car one though its not a weatherproof as one might like so operation can be 'erratic'.

Good location though for options like switches for driving lights or foglights.

The four switches at the top were used for emergency lighting, ie front blues, pole blues, wailers, etc, or at least they were on mine !
