My lovely Morea Green K1100LT has fallen off its side stand (very gusty wind, and bad parking, to blame), and cracked the r/h fairing lower, which isn't repairable, nor is the mirror pod... it's toast.

There's a few scratches and scrapes on the upper r/h fairing edge too, and the trim piece between the pocket and fairing is cracked.

The panniers weren't fitted at the time, so are untouched, and there seems to be no other damage.

It's got under 47 thousand miles on it, and it's an exceptionally sweet example, and a really very nice K tourer!

Extensive service and MOT history (expires 28/09/2018).

I haven't got a garage, so working on it is very difficult for me, and I won't be claiming on my insurance! Therefore I need to sell it to a fellow enthusiast, for restoration... K1100LT for Sale - Midlands, UK. 112350

Price: £1200

Location: Notts. NG2

PM me for more info, viewing obviously welcome, coffee always on!

Hi David,

shame you are selling her, she looked a very nice example.

Given your asking price , and current values on the k1100, would it not be possible to buy replacement  panels  and have them sprayed.

Obviously not having access to a garage would be make things awkward, but not impossible.

Bob

Hi Bob, yes, it really is a shame to sell her... but I don't have the money to put into the job, to restore her.

I've not advertised the K anywhere else, what I'm hoping for is that someone will buy her, who has a workshop, and do the job themselves. The paint (Morea Grun) was used on some 3 Series BMW cars, and so should be readily available, and panels are cheap enough on Ebay etc.

The bike is a really good example, and way too good to either use as a hack, or (and this is just my opinion) turn into a 'cafe racer'... I love to keep bikes substantially 'stock', because once they're gone, they're gone. Just look at what's happened to Airhead BMW's, big block Guzzi's etc.

Anyway, if nobody wants her, I'll look at other options. I'm not on Facebook, but I believe there are some classic K groups there, perhaps someone more 'modern' than me could put the word around..? I'm very keen for this bike to go to someone who really loves K's K1100LT for Sale - Midlands, UK. 112350

Well... it looks like (after my initial panic) that I've seen the error of my ways in putting the K up for sale on here.

I've sourced a full set of panels (in Royal Blue, so the necessary ones will need spraying in Morea Green) on eBay.

I guess it'll take a while, money being tight... but my K *will* be returned to her former glory, maybe even better!

I've never removed the fairing from a K1100LT, and as I have no workshop space, it may well prove to be tricky...

Any assistance and/or advice in the East Mids. area will be very gratefully received! Big thumb

Having done the K100 I think the removal of fairing on K1100 is fiddly rather than tricky but it's a 2 man job unless you have 4 5 foot long arms. The main fairing part as in the big bit is the same on the K75RT/K100RTLT/K1100LT. You need a spare pair of arms for getting at fixings and holding the panels which are brittle and snap if not careful. There are tricks to do it single handed but not recommending them as you haven't done it before so the ideal is if some one who has done it comes your way to help. The brilliant part is that you can have the new panels all sorted ready to go on so its just a swap. A little WD40 on some of the fixings in advance of the job is very helpful.

I do a lot of these jobs on my patio on a nice day.....

I'm really glad you have seen the error of your ways. That's a nice K1100 and one I would have chased if I hadn't got one last October.

Incidentally no engine bars on your photo? If that's still the case stretch the budget and go for a set. Mine has been over twice since I got it, with bars and panniers on I just lifted it up without damage of any significance. With assistance!.

But I *will* get this K back to it's former glory!

And I'll keep an eye out, for some engine bars.

This wasn't a mistake, but a temporary bad judgement.
Contact this guy, and ask him if he has crash bars (parre cylindres in French)
I know the quality of service is good and the price will be right if he has some in stock.

Actually a very important little detail about panniers and Ks falling over.

My K1100 fell over and a [previously unknown] feature of the pannier design is the pannier to rail lock is riveted to the pannier case with 3 soft rivets.

These seemingly are designed to pop off if you let the bike over on them rather than bust the pannier case. When I was getting new exhaust studs and nuts etc I got a pack of the rivets from the local dealer. The pack included all the rivets for the pannier, for the three locks. They are 3.2mm rivets. Keep some taped in your bike somewhere, they pop easily but are just as easy to replace and finding a rivet gun shouldn't be hard.

As it happened I found I had plenty of spare rivets here tapped into a wall by the house previous owner [here 13 years] and used some to reattach the plate.

Also, if your bike goes over, check these rivets as if you don't you may end up with missing pannier syndrome.

Very interesting points... and duly noted!

Re. my bike falling over: part of the problem was that the panniers weren't fitted.

Had they been, I think the fairing would have been much less damaged...
