I'd have the RS, but I don't think I'd have much luck teaching it to swim Sad

This is a sad time. The 2 bikes are sold but....
The RS may stay as is (for a while), but the RT will be stripped down to do a cafe racer.
When you almost get the money that you asked for and the buyer is purchasing the 2 bikes, you just bite your tongue and let them go.

Agreed, CF.  That is so sad. 2 fine K100s for sale in Montreal, Quebec 177381   I wish I could have taken the RS but it's cash-flow and difficulty with importing from Quebec into Ontario.

Rob, we are living in the same country. It should be easy.
I am making a T-shirt for my bro and his new bike....It's not finished yet but I can see where I am going with the design.

Yeah, you'd think that it would be but it isn't easy at all. Problems with transferring ownership, problems with safeties, and problems with insurance. Same goes for other Provinces, so Quebec is not unique.

I bought my first K75 in Montreal and I didn't have any problems to bring it in Nova Scotia (Other that I couldn't get a temporary permit to ride it back to Halifax)

When I read the bit about someone stripping down this prime example I felt my stomach turn, truly, but you've gotta try to let go sometimes. Still, it makes me shake my head in wonder at the priorities of others compared to mine. I can imagine the love, the energy, the enjoyment in the days and nights spent toiling to get and keep that RT to the condition it is in. I do not mean to have a holier than thou attitude. Everyone has a different perspective. Tho' imagine a painter placing emojis on a naked Mona Lisa.

For f*'s sake, buy a ratty bike and lovingly strip, chop & knobbie tyre it.

Now get offa my lawn!
Smile

To me the sad thing is that once it is finished the "new" cafe bike will go out a few times to have cool photos taken surrounded by urban garbage in front of grafitti covered walls.   It will be used for Saturday night rides to nite clubs for a year or two, then parked in the corner of the garage to gather dust when the owner finally figures out that women aren't that impressed by it.  In the end, they are basically turning a wonderful piece of machinery into a lawn ornament.

The upside of this is that through the stripping process they are providing a donor base of inexpensive fairing bits to keep the remaining bikes in good trim today and, since they are used so infrequently, in the future a wealth of lightly used drive train components.

You just gotta look at the silver lining.

"the RT will be stripped down to do a cafe racer"

No question that some of these can be well executed and look awfully sweet but is this not merely current fashion driving many of these projects?  I haven't ridden one so I can't really say, but they sure as hell don't look very comfortable to ride any distance.  Maybe that is the real kicker for me.  At the heart of this vintage of the K line is the intent that they be long haul capable.  To reduce one to a short distance fashion piece just bugs me.  I'm too new to this bike but when did they become so desirable for this type of modding?

I'm currently up to my eyeballs in a sea of pieces on the re-fit of my K.  When I saw these two posted I briefly thought about begging my wife for financing.  $3000(ish) for a K that has had all the heavy lifting done and is good to go?  What a waste...
