Hi All,

I need to replace the centre stand on my 1983 rs, I let this one go as it's from a 1990 and is different. The 83 one has big curves where as this one seems to have feet.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-k100rs-stand-assembly-/332583070819?ul_noapp=true&nma=true&si=yZg%252FVDMoXc5fG6CfqejU%252FQ%252BG648%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Have I missed a chance here or was I right to let it pass? And if so what other centre stands will fit without too much modification?

Thanks in advance.

Dave

I put a complete K1100 assembly on my 84 K100RT. Straight swap once you have the complete assembly. I struck lucky with a good one off a 16k mile bike and it looked it.

Your linked eBay post is deleted as the item has ended.

Try this one, in Sherlocks where I got mine. Excellent to deal with.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-K100RS-16V-1990-24-259-miles-complete-centre-main-side-prop-stand-assembly/183093266942?hash=item2aa13589fe:g:gKAAAOSwZQRYbRbt

There are others on eBay coming from Germany too.

Yes, you blew it.  Those K1100 stands are a direct bolt up to the earlier bricks.  Not only are they less likely to rust out and drop your bike, but they are easier to get the bike up onto the stand.

Keep watching, another one will be along sooner or later.

While they are less likely to rust out and drop your bike, the fact that the feet are much smaller means that if parked on ground rather than concrete/tarmac, and rain softens the ground, the right foot sinks into the ground and drops your bike.

The dent in my tank is the direct result.  affraid

Before replacing the stand on my RT, every time I was greasing the splines, I was removing the rubber plugs on the centre stand and filled it with a mixture of hot oil and wax. I never had a problem.
Now I am a bit older and use the sidecar as the centre stand. Believe me, it works! Centre stand 261959

mmm....tried googling 'K rubber plugs, hot oil and wax' hoping it might throw up something like Sidecar Willie. Doesn't!

I am perfectly aware that oil and rubbers sometimes don't mix well together but...
The cost of 2 rubber plus vs the cost of replacing a fairing and a centre stand is minimal.
These rubber plugs have a tiny little hole in their center and it's imperative to keep it clean (Any accumulated water/moisture will drip from there) This is basically the same as the drip hole for the oil/water pump.

Every couple of years or so I remove the bungs and fill my stand with LPS Hard Coat Corrosion Inhibitor and let it sit for a while, then drain into a separate container. Mark the container and just keep on using it for the stand. Esso uses it under the name of LPS 3 offshore in Bass Strait. As far as soft ground I only use the side stand in conjunction with a 5" square galvanized post cap. To aid recovery attach a string to it, pull the string in and ride to a firm spot and stow the cap. The cap is multi purpose, a place to put small parts while working on the bike, ash tray, water dish for your dog,  donation container when trying to raise money by singing, finger bowl after chicken wings.
Regards Martin.

Another advantage of the later stand Dave is if you ever decide to fit a wider rear wheel ( from a 16V K100 or a K1100 ) at 4.5x18 inch the later stand will accept it with minor mods whereas the older stand will not
