Hello all. My introduction to BMW motorcycles was in 2008 when I bought a friend's '84 R80ST after owning a few old Hondas. I didn't like it much at all but I figured it's a BMW so I have to give it a chance. Turns out it was running poorly and after I tuned it up and rode it across the country I was hooked. After I returned I had an opportunity to purchase a pair of '84 R65's. That led to a couple of R90's. Somewhere along the line the K bikes caught my attention but I never came across any (I mostly buy in an oppotunitic fashion rather than going out and looking). Last fall opportunity presented a K100 from a friend (and member here) who has high mechanical standards similar to mine, though I think he's more diligent in attaining that standard. Just a week after I bought that one a K100RT popped up and since I live and commute in the rain country of Southeast Alaska the fairing was attractive. It, however, needs TLC, which for some of us is an attractive feature. I'm pretty familiar with my airheads. Now I'm excited to gain familiarity with the flying bricks! - Mikey D

Maybe.

But that doesn't mean you get to keep the white zip ties. Just joined your group 44271

You have what's known on the forum as K pox, one K begets another.

But you are right about the RT fairing and the K100 RT is brilliant for your weather. I use mine all year and took it out yesterday in torrential rain and squalls to meet a few others for breakfast. Unfortunately they don't have RTs, so breakfast was a solo run.

Enjoy the banter on the forum but underneath everyone is really helpful and will never make you feel you have asked a silly question. On the contrary anyone will happily point you in the right direction.

A few photos will be nice too, also if you get a chance if you put the VIN number in your signature so those who have the more technical answers know what exact bike you have as there were some changes over the life of the Ks.

I don't have any white zip ties on either K-bike yet, but I did use a purple twist tie to tuck away the pig tail for my heated riding gear. It's hidden behind the side cover though Smile Just joined your group 20170910

How's that Juneau moto garage going now, Mikey? Covered in snow and filled with bikes?
